On 2002-09-15, J. Smith rated this Wilson Deep Red 365cc 9* stiff Driver a 5...(546)
Purchase: I bought mine on eBay for $170 brand new, and I've seen the price range from $165 to $200 depending on the timing of the auction.
Pros: I bought this driver after researching what I thought would be the best drivers suited for my game. This club had by far the largest sweet spot, and the largest "forgiveness zone" of all the drivers I tried. I lost only 5 to 10 yards on off-center hits.
Nike, Titleist, Cobra, Taylormade, are all great clubs. I tried them. For me the clear cut winner was Wilson. This is certainly not the most appealing name out there, but it is a very impressive club. If one of those "Big Four" I mentioned above had produced this driver, there would be less justification needed to prove this is a landmark club.
I'm sure the engineering departments of the other club manufacturers are tearing the Wilson apart to see what makes it so forgiving. Distance is equal to all the other clubs I've mentioned.
Each player will see a club that is suited to their own game, but you owe to yourself to give the Wilson a try. I swing at 100 to 105 mph with a driver. I demoed a 10.5 regular shaft and found the flight somewhat high, and the shaft a little dull in feel. I was still very impressed. The 9 degree stiff has much more feel for me and is apparently the most popular combination sold.
Give this driver a try, you may come to the same conclusion as I did, maybe not; but you will agree, there is not another driver that gives you as much confidence at address; It's a beautiful club to look upon... for sure!
Cons: The clubhead cover is a little small for the 365cc head. I got a newer cover that fits the 425cc head and have found that it works great with plenty of room to spare. It's interesting that the cover is all I Have to gripe about.
Quality: Great quality! The club is built in Tullahoma, Tennessee- Tennesseans take great pride in what they build.
Review Summary: Somehow Wilson has stumbled upon a design that should be considered as one of the great clubs made in the last ten years. I know of no big name pro other than Padraig Harrington that plays this club. But if you are not on the tour, I believe this club can make a 4 to 5 stroke difference in a bogey golfers game.
