On 2004-05-06, Brett rated this Wilson Deep Red II Distance a 5...(3599)

Purchase: I picked it up at Edwin Watts For $249.00.
Pros: My first thought when I gave the club a swing was...WOW, This thing is light. My next thought was I'll never be able to control it. Well, I was wrong. The first ball I hit was solid with a nice mid launch angle and a small draw. Most of the balls I've hit since have had a similar theme. It is VERY hard to mishit this club. At address it instills confidence and assurance that your will hit it solid. It is extremely forgiving. Especially on shots off the heel. The distance this club gets is good but not amazing. I've hit clubs that are longer, but they are not nearly as forgiving. The fat shaft is exellent, though it can be a bit dead as far as feed back goes. You really need to get used to how to read the feedback. Solid hits feel as though you didn't even hit the ball and mishits are very mild on the hands.
Cons: I have one minor complaint and one major one. The minor being, It comes with a Golf Pride Tour velvet Grip. I know that many, many players love this grip, but it has never felt right to me. I prefer Winn grips. The major problem...if you need the club reshafted or repaired, you have to send it to Wilson. You cannot buy after market shafs for this club. Which means you are without a driver for 3-4 weeks.
Quality: The quality of this club is second to none. The head is solid and very attractive with a dark ruby-red finish. Very nice looking driver. The shaft is a ProLite+ made for Wilson by Grafalloy(I use their shafts for all my woods) and of course a very popular Golf Pride grip.(although not popular with me.)

Review Summary: While the grip was not my first choice, and it is an inconvience to send the club out for repair, I cannot in good conscious knock any points off. This club (for most golfers) WILL improve your game. If you have the oppertunity buy it, or at least demo it. I think you will be very pleased. I know I am.
