On 2007-03-04, Timran rated this Wilson Pd 5 a 4...(7660)

Details: .350 Nano Tech Graphite shaft 400cc head 10 degree loft

Purchase: Purchased this club from Direct Golf for £79.99 in May 2006.
Pros: Unlike some drivers that I have used this is 'only' a 400cc head, which upon addressing the ball looks good. I have tried larger headed drivers and don't feel comfortable with attempting to swing a basketball on a stick. The ball flight produced with this club, is relatively low and penetrating, making it easy to use into the wind. I tend to play off the tee using a slight fade, and unlike a lot of drivers the Pd 5 performs this task consistently. The club is long, in part due to the low ball flight generating run even on damp courses, and importantly is easy to hit. For a player with an average swing speed, the weight of the club is good.
Cons: One downside of the club is that results did not come instantly. It did take several rounds and a few baskets of range balls for me to get used to the Pd5. One website I visited recommended that this club be used by players with a handicap of 18 or less, and I wouldn't disagree, there are more forgiving (more expensive) clubs on the market, however very few are as long (or straight).
Quality: The quality of the Pd 5 is high, with the shaft being one of the best I have used. I have played with Aldila shafts, but find the Grafalloy Nanotech shaft far more forgiving. The head of the club features a carbon composite crown, and the club looks classically good.

Review Summary: For value for money the Pd5 can't be bettered, and for length and accuracy it is as good as anything I've used. When I come to upgrade I will certainly be considering Wilson again.
