On 2003-09-28, Junyu rated this Wilson Deep Red II15* 3 Wood a 4...(2408)

Purchase: Bought it off eBay without even trying it (a big risk that paid off) at US$120.
Pros: Wilson gear has always looked really good. While looks have done nothing to improve a game, it make whipping it out of the bag a delight. =) It also has the nicest headcover i've ever seen. At first i was skeptical about such a shallow face and small head, but after a few good shots, i can safely say that this wood is just as good, if not better, than most of the big name woods out there. The contact is so sweet and the ball realy flies(if i just hammer it without control, i've seen it go abt 215m) There is also something about the lie and maybe the fat-shaft (can't pin it down) but it makes my swing really smooth. It is simply heaven to hit off the fairway but a wee bit scary off the tee till you get used to it cos of the shallow face. This is my favourite club in the bag. Unless it's a really long par 4/5, i rather tee off with this than my driver so i end up with a less awkward pitch to the green.
Cons: The paintwork is less than satisfactory. I have had the paint come off at the bottom while rescuing a bunker shot (yes! from a shallow bunker! maybe i'm mad =)) And the paint chips too easily but that's the price u pay for it look so cool i guess.
Quality: The paintwork is the only bad thing abt this club. Other than that, it's superb.

Review Summary: Please try this if you're looking for a new fairway wood but stay away from the driver. I bought that too on a whim (Deep Red II Distance) and while the performance of the driver is fine, it just sits really weird. Give a demo and you'll see what i mean. I got rid of that and got me a nice little TaylorMade 540.
