On 2002-09-25, Golfgod rated this Wilson Big Red Irons (Steel) a 4...(610)

Purchase: I acquired these at a 2nd Swing retail outlet in Milwaukee WI. I traded in several clubs after Spring cleaning & ended up w/ a credit so ordered these irons sight unseen other than reading various web sites about them. (I had the driver already & luv it so thought I'd try these.) They were about $550.
Pros: Nice irons. Feel good at impact & set up nice behind the ball. They are very forgiving, very straight & long. The long irons are the most forgiving and easiest to hit I've had. Distance is also pretty consistent thru each club w/ no "hot spots" that send your 150yd club 170yds when you don't need it. I won my City Flight Championship w/ them so I can't complain, (but I will!)
Cons: Over time I began hooking these badly. I thought it was my swing & compared them w/ my other set, Ping I3 blades & found out it was the club not the swing in head to head testing. Is it possible these Big Red's helped me so much that my swing is to good for these? Is the offset built into these irons now to much after I lowered my handicap from a 15 to a 10? I can't explain it but the clubs that got me to where I am have betrayed me! I also could not find anyone willing to fit these Fat Shafts to my swing. And don't snap a shaft as they are hard to get repaired.
Quality: Excellent quality & design. Awesome game improvement irons and the Fat Shaft technology has real merit. Remember I also have the Big Red 365, the best driver for us common golfers on the market today.

Review Summary: These are simply great irons. I can't explain the sudden "hooks" but maybe they are as billed, "the best game improvement irons available for the mid handicaper on up" & I'm now to a point where I need less offset? For irons, I found them reasonably priced compared to their competition.
