On 2002-07-19, Craig Davis rated this Wilson Deep Red Fat Shaft (Steel) a 5...(287)

Purchase: I bought these clubs at Golf USA, Lufkin, Texas for $540 plus tax. At the time of purchase, I compared Wilson Deep Red Fat Shaft (Steel), Deep Red Fat Shaft (Graphite), and Calloway 2002 Big Berthas. I compared these three brands by hitting a demo 6 iron from each set. I conducted a one hour range ball striking session, rotating each club after about 15 shots. It only took about 15 minutes before I took the Wilson Graphite out of rotation. It just did not have thefeel for my game, like thwe other two. For the next 45 minutes, I hit the Deep Red (Steel) and the 2002 Big Bertha. I can honestly say that I don't believe there is a nickel's worth of difference between the two. Both hold a very straight line, reducing hooks and slices. Both hit a relatively soft, high, looong shot. The Bertha hits a slightly softer shot, but the Wilson is a little longer, with slightly more feel. I finally decided on the Wilson, because of it's slightly longer distance and the better feedback. Both are excellent clubs, but the Wilson suits my game.
Pros: The Wilson Deep Red Fat Shaft (Steel) is very long, reduces hooks and slices, has a pretty good feel, and is very easy to hit. It is the best set of irons that I have ever purchased. I did not realize that the technology had gotten this much better.
Cons: For an advanced player, it probably will not let the ball work as well.
Quality: Excellent construction and quality.

Review Summary: I believe that this club is an outstanding choice and value for anyone with a Handicap of 8+. You can't beat these Wilsons.
