On 2004-11-01, Sincerely, Sold on the Distance II Irons rated this Wilson Deep Red II Distance Irons a 5...(4734)

Purchase: I've been a PGA Head Club Professional for the past 14 years and had a demo day on our driving range this past July. My rep asked me to hit the Deep Red II Distance Irons. So I set aside my Nike irons and gave it a shot. I asked him to let me hold onto a 7 iron for a week to really get a feel of these irons. After a week I was SOLD ON THESE IRONS.
Pros: First of all, I cannot tell you how FORGIVING these irons are. The fat shaft has little torque and the design of the head allows me to consistently hit STRAIGHT, LONG shots! I've been in the golf business for 29 years and have NEVER felt an iron like this one. Until something else comes along I will not trade these in even if any other company offered me 5 of their sets free! I am sold on this iron and absolutely LOVE the feel of them.
Cons: Tough question. Because I have hit quite a few different irons in my life, I cannot find fault with these. I've been a Hogan man, a Titleist man, a Nike man, a Cleveland man, etc..., and find these to perform better. The irons don't advertise like the other companies, but I really am not interested in paying for an iron that someone on tour is getting big bucks to play with and have his picture in an ad. The only thing I am interested in is: DOES THE IRON PERFORM FOR ME?
Quality: I love the grips on them. I love the Fat Shaft. I love the soft and hard urethene on the back of the head that TRULY dampens the feel for an incredible "butter-like" feel. I felt that the Distance II model also outperformed the Tour model.

Review Summary: I get absolutely nothing by bragging about these clubs except the pure pleasure of knowing that someone out there may put a set in his bag and play better golf. Last week I shot an easy -3 69 followed with a 72. Stepping on the first tee, I always feel that I have an advantage against my friends because of these irons. I like them so much I have an extra set in the basement in case I ever lose an iron. Good golfing and enjoy playing a new game!
