On 2005-03-28, Joe Golfer rated this Winn AVS Midsize Putter a 5...(5268)
Purchase: I bought this grip at Golf Galaxy for
$4.49 plus tax. I just wanted to try a new grip for my Odyssey Dual Rossie putter.
I put it on the club myself.
Pros: I was originally going to buy the
Winn V-17 Criss Cross AVS Midsize.
I at first thought that that the grips would be identical in feel with only a slight differnce in the grain pattern on the two models. They are the same size and style (pistol) as eachother.
I was set to purchase the Criss Cross, but then I picked up the newer model. It is just a tad bit softer, but it is much tackier in feel.
The V-17 Criss Cross is a very dark burgundy color, kind of a brownish red.
The one I chose is gray with two red horizontal stripes near the top.
Cons: Nothing to dislike so far, unless you do not like a high-tack grip.
Quality: Excellent. No problems whatsoever.
Review Summary: I've often thought that Winn's grips for drivers/irons were overhyped and overpriced. That said, I still do in most instances.
But when it comes to putter grips, if you want one with a very tacky feel, you might want to try this grip. It has the exact same size and weight dimensions as the V-17 Criss Cross AVS Midsize from Winn, but with a much tackier feel to it.
If you have tried that blue grip on the Ping CrazE putter, it feels like that, but this grip is thicker than that and has the pistol style shape so popular in many fine putters. I highly recommend it. It even adds to the soft feel of impact, yet it does not inhibit good feedback on your putts. Definitely worth a try.
