On 2004-09-25, Going for Birdies rated this Yonex ADX 100i a 4...(4463)

Purchase: The club was purchased used for $40 at a store called 2nd Swing in Orland Park, IL. I was looking for a gap wedge to fill in between the PW and the SW, since today's PW lofts are stronger, yet SW lofts remain around 55* or 56*.
Pros: The clubhead is a soft steel. It isn't forged, but it still has a very soft feel. The head is larger than a standard wedge head, and has a cavity back, both of which are enhance forgiveness on slightly off-center hits. The shaft is graphite, but is not whippy or twisty like so many graphite iron shafts. The regular flex shaft feels like it is about the same cpm as a steel shaft.
Cons: The lie is flatter than most wedges. I've looked this up, and it seems that Yonex in general has a slightly flatter lie on their shorter clubs than most companies. Since the metal is soft, it can be bent, but I think that Yonex would be better off if they made their shorter iron lie angles slightly more upright to match traditional standards, atleast for their American market. Also, there is more offset on this wedge than on traditional wedges from most companies. It would be more "workable" to fade the ball if it had less offset in this model.
Quality: The quality is excellent. No complaints here.

Review Summary: A great club if you are looking for forgiveness, and for something to fill in between your PW and SW. It was measured at 51* loft at my pro shop. If you like to fade the ball, this club may not be for you because it has more offset than most wedges, such as Cleveland or Titliest, that I have seen. It does have a very soft feel for a cast club, probably because they have used a soft grade of metal.
