On 2005-09-25, The Zevonator rated this Zevo Compressor / 9 deg / stiff shaft a 5...(6232)
Purchase: I bought the Zevo from Golfsmith for $100 dollars about two months ago. It took a couple of times at the range for me to learn the club. I will not state how far I hit this club but I will compare distances. I never believe the distances people state when doing these reviews. I guarantee you they never 'actually' measure the distance themselves (nor have I).
Pros: When I went to the range (same one I always go to), I used to hit my previous driver almost to the net at the back of the range. It would typically land just short and roll into the net. With the Zevo Driver I VERY CONSISTENTLY hit my drives where the ball hits the top of the net and occasionally goes over. The net is the typical tall net they have at ranges. Just the other day I went to the range and a couple of guys stopped hitting their balls and watched me hit for a while. I didn't know what to think of that. It was both a little embarassing and ego boosting at the same time.
The 9 degree club plays like a 10 or 11 degree for me (and I don't tee it up very high nor do I try to loft it up). Anything greater than 9 would be too much loft. The 9 deg on this club is perfect. The trajectory is cool too. The ball shoots off the clubface like a laser. It goes in a very straight line up, up, up, and away. Also, this club seems way more consistent than my previous driver and even my irons. If I were to hit 5 balls, where they land you could draw a straight line between the balls.
I won't really comment on slicing or hooking - because that is more of a technique problem than an equipment problem. If you slice or hook...work on your swing. It's not your club's fault. It just does what you tell it to do.
Cons: The only thing I don't like is that you don't get much respect from other "good" golfers at first for hitting a Zevo driver. Maybe that's not a bad thing though. They do however seem to change their tune once you've outdriven them on several holes and your ball lands in the middle of the green everytime.
My driver now is the club that I have the most confidence in. Heck, I used to not carry a driver because I would be so inconsistent with it.
Quality: Construction quality is as it should be. It seems very well made. What I like is that the club face is a bit thicker than those of these newer expensive clubs. The thin faces are probably fine but I worry how they will be long run. I don't by equipment often and I want something that will last. I think the Zevo will do just that.
Review Summary: The bottom line is if you are looking for a driver, save the $200-$300 bucks an buy a Zevo. You will not regret it. I haven't. Heck I just love to show off with it now. Don't buy your clubs based on what other "real golfers" think. Get the Zevo and kick their butts with it. You will cherish the look on their faces when you smear them with it.
