There are two things you can do to find out what size grips are correct for your irons. One, measure the butt end of the shaft, that's pretty easy. Two, remove one of the old grips and look inside the mouth of the grip, it should be marked .580 or .600. That's even easier. As for using 600 size grips on 580 shafts, the only thing you might notice is that the finished club may feel a little bit smaller than before. 600 grips are designed to fit a 600" shaft, so the wall thichness is thinner, that will mean the club will have a smaller grip diameter with the thinner wall thinkness of the 600 grip. As for coming loose, or moving, I doubt that will be a problem. I measured some of the grips I have in stock, and all of them measure right around .500 inside diameter. So, either a .580 or .600 diameter shaft will have to stretch the grip quite a bit when the grip is installed. You will have at least an .080" stretch, and grip tape is sticky in and of it's self, so that will add more friction to the fit. As a last resort, you could always take the clubs to a good golf shop and have them tell you the correct size grip for them. Then just buy the correct size grip and install them. On a final note, Do the clubs feel a little big in your hands, or a little small? If they feel a bit large, get the .600 core grip. If they feel a bit small, get the .580 core grip. Good luck and have fun with your re-gripping job.
