If you are going June, July, or August, there are many courses you can play for $50, IT IS HOT THEN. Get on the internet and check out Myrtle Beach golf courses. There are only about a hundred or so. Probably more golf courses within a 25 mile radius than anywhere else in the world.

I usually go to Myrtle for golf in the winter, but I've gone a couple of times in August for the beach. If you shop around a little you should be able to find some deals - if you are going to be at a hotel check with the concierge. There's a trade-off, though. The best deals money-wise are usually in the afternoon and the heat anytime after 12:00 can be really brutal. Ditto the skeeters. If you do play in the afternoon, take plenty of Off! and wrap a wet towel around your head - that sounds dumb, but it does help.

I can't really speak for the Myrtle Beach area, but I was in SC from July to Nov 03 and the heat, mixed with the humidity in July, August is brutal. In September it's the thunder storm season, it's hot, humid, and thunderin pretty good. Oct and what I saw of Nov were great. The bugs there are a huge pest. They all seemed to be twice as big as I've ever seen. But still it's a beautiful area.

Played alot in MB last year about this time, Weather was plesant, 80-85 ish. Rivers Edge is a Palmer course just north of MB that is real nice.
Tigers Eye, Panthers run and Lions Paw are a great trio of courses as well. Big Blue is another one.(Slightly higher $)
Have fun.....

Possum Trot is one of the older tracks and nothing to get excited about. Heather Glen is a good choice as is it's sister Glen Dornoch. One of my favorites up north is Carolina Shores - beautiful layout, well bunkered, friendly people. Lion's Paw and Panther Run are also very good tracks. So many courses, so little time. You should be able to get some good deals if you are willing to play in the afternoon heat, which can be brutal. Also, this time of year you are almost always going to get an afternoon thunderstorm or three - their called popup thunderstorms because they seem to just popup out of thin air.

If you haven't been to the area for a while there is a new connecting road from North Myrtle to Myrtle. I think it's route 31. I stayed at Tidewater in NMB a couple of years ago and made it to Wildwing off 501 in about 30 minutes using the new road. Enjoy.

Do you have the DVD from Myrtle Beach? It contains a small sample or each of the courses down there. I still think it would be fun to have GGR golf match in Myrtle some time. Be nice to meet some of the members and play a round and see who's telling the truth about their handicap. Does anyone have better prices than Myrtle?

We have a timeshare in MB. My offer to host some guys for a few days over the winter still stands. It just takes some advance planning. Hooters Air (Hooters has been coming up a lot lately) has regular, cheap flight to the MB airport which is 5 minutes from our resort.

Which Precept ball did you like so much and was discontinued? Don't you just hate it when you like something the next thing, they stop making it?

I ran into the same problem with Maxfli. I really liked the M3, now it's gone. They have the A3, but I haven't tried it yet.

JJW; go to Edmon Watts' website, they have the M3 LT on sale for $32.00 for 2 dozen, or $180 for 12 dozen. The LT has more spin than the M3 tour, and a different dimple pattern to provent the extra spin from causing it to balloon. They had the M3 Tour, but they sold out of those already. Sorry. Don

L,

Our local Dick's Sporting Goods still has lots of Lady/Laddies in stock. If you have one near you give them a call or check www.dsports.com.

Check out their website and order the MB DVD. It has a little preview of each of the courses and some restaraunts and stores in the area. It's free and should help you get some idea of what you will find when you get there. Let us know how it goes after you get back. You should find some really good deals on the site for hotel and golf packages also. Good luck and report back.

ok so now I'm back from Myrtle Beach. Let me tell you. Heather Glen is an awesome course for not a bad price. I paid $50 for immaculately manicured greens, a great layout, and even the beer and food prices were excellent. Tidewater was a magnificent course, but a little overpriced. $86 and the fairways were nice but about every third green played VERY inconsistent. Some looked as if they had not been cut and the 17th green looked as if it was getting very diseased. I was not happy with the very small bucket of balls for the range ($5) but the beer was cold and inexpensive. Overall Heather Glen was a phenominal deal, but I feel, (now this is just my opinion) that Tidewater, though has great location and views of the marshes, is a bit overrated and overpriced.

Glad you liked Heather Glen - it's a very good track. $86 for Tidewater must be their 'God it's hot!' summer rate. I checked into it 3 years ago and it was somewhere around $125, so I just hit a bag of balls. We were staying there at the time and I had thought I might get a break, but no way. I'd still like to play it, though, since it was rated by Golf Digest as one of the top new courses when it opened. My wife and I have a timeshare in Myrtle now and part of the deal is the ability to play Tidewater at a discount along with several other courses.

The Glen was awesome, the service was first rate, but any club that charges $86 and leaves their greens as bad as the Tidewater greens were has no reason for charging that much. voted best or not. i'll never play there again.
