I have noticed that in golf games it seems that the pros use a 2 iron rather than the 5 wood, but on the other hand most sets of clubs have the 5 wood and 3-pw.....so my question is, which is better to use?

what do you hit better, irons or woods? I personally prefer the 5 wood.

Very few pros use the 2-iron, the latest Golf Digest magazine has some statistics...they've gone to the hybrids more and more. Although quite a few still use fairway woods, seems the 5 wood has been replaced by the hybrid for most of them.

I still like my 5W though the jury is still out on my hybrids vs the 3I and 4I. Right now it seems I'm hitting the 3I better than the hybrid but its a close match between the 4I and the 4 hybrid.

i was swinging a dunlope #3 and #4 hybrid around at my job today and it seemed to be alot better that a long iron of a 3 or even a 2 would be...i didn't get to hit a ball, it seemed to be a bit more comfortable.

IMO a 2 iron is only for the very skilled golfer, i´d even say just for the low single-handicappers amoung us.
a 5 wood is much easier to hit off the tee or on the fairway.
in the rough i´ll take one of my hybrids (19° or 22°)

Not many Pros are carrying 2 irons anymore. Some, but they are in the minority now. Hybrids have pretty well replaced them. 5 woods still get plenty of play too (-ahem: Tiger Who?? ;))

Not trying to hijack this post but if one has PW-5 Iron, a 22 deg. hybrid, a 20 deg. 5 FW, a 15 deg. 3 FW and a 9.5 deg driver, then do I still need another club? As is, I already have 14 ( 2 56 deg. SW/ one with low bounce for my club and regular and a LW). Or should I just play with what I've got?

Have you hit the 20º fairway wood and the 22º hybrid? What are the distances you're seeing with those? I know this came up in another thread and we were curious if the yardages would be similar for those 2 clubs in particular.

Assessing the yardage you hit the clubs you already have should determine what, if any, clubs are needed to "fill the gaps" in yardage. ;\)

I'm pretty sure I hit my 5FW 180-200 and when I can I'm getting 170+ so far with my new hybrid. Our club pro closes the driving range when it rains because it turns into a pool/ mudpit. I'll retest both in the next week when the rain stops.
