HI guys, recently I started to use an idea I had for starting my backswing and it's working great. One of the best nine holes I had played this spring was when I started my backswing with the thought of aiming my right thumb up and over my shoulder, that made me start the club back and inside. I got away from this, because I just forgot to think about it and my game got worse. Now, I start my backswing with a new method that is working even better. If you play with a three knuckle showing grip, hands rotated about 10-15 degrees clockwise of neutral, your right index finger is slightly to the left of the shaft, and your thumb is between your index finger and your right shoulder. To start my swing, I just pull back with my right index finger and that starts my swing around my body and on the correct plane. As a competitive pistol shooter, my right index finger is my trigger finger, and I guess you could say that I use my trigger finger to start my swing. When it's time to swing the club, I just pull the trigger and away I go. I played nine holes at a local par three course a few days ago, and hit seven of nine greens with more accuracy than ever. Landed one ball eight inches right of the flag and three inches short. Nice little tap in for birdie. I was between clubs on most of the holes and still hit seven greens because my direction was good and I was swinging the club on a smooth arc around my body. Didn't putt real well and shot a two over 29. Bogeyed 4-6 after two poor tee shots that were short of the green and one three putt on the green I did hit. The tee shots were hit high on the club face and came up short. After watching the pros on tour play the par threes, I don't think seven of nine good tee shots on the par threes is too bad. Most of the pros are over par on the par threes at the end of the week, so I think there's hope for me yet. I sent this tip to Trip, another member of this website group, and he's trying in out now. Give it a try and let me know how it goes. Good or bad results, I'd like your feedback.
Did you know that having an airplanes shadow past over you is good luck? IT CAN ONLY HAPPEN IF YOU ARE OUTDOORS AND THE SUN IS SHINING. And that's always a bit of good luck, even if you do miss an easy putt for par.

Hi Trip; glad to hear the tip is working for you. Give it some time and I think it will just keep getting better. I just got back from the driving range and hit the ball as well as I ever have. I'm pulling the trigger and hitting them long and straight. Last week I gained 15 yards with all my short irons and I still have them this week. My old 135 yard nine iron is now 150 and all over the flag. I have to think the extra distance is from pulling the trigger to start my swing. That's the only change I have made in my swing. You can't help but make a full, early wrist cock. Had a light tail wind today and I was hitting my nine iron 160 and my 7 iron 190 yards. I honestly doubt it was a 10 yard tail wind, so I think I may have gained a few more yards with the extra day of practice using the trigger method of starting my swing. On the seven irons that carried 190 yards, it felt like I was hitting a marshmellow, the ball striking was so solid. And that's with cheap range balls that are not real soft. Can't wait to hit something with a little feel to it, like a MaxFli Noodle or one of the other soft balls out there. Now I just hope the extra 15 yards stays around for awhile.

the only thing i think about is don't sway & hit the ball at 4 o'clock. that gives me the inside swing without forcing it. i just aim for 4 on the ball.
