Don, I was suggesting just that. By winner's rather than "winner" take all.., I also meant gifts end up in the hands of various winners. And I like your ideas of various contests/challenges. Don't know how we want to decide how much to spend individually, so I was wondering if we split the overall estimated costs of gifts, then we're all out of pocket the same... with a chance to win various $10-$50. gifts.
(BTW, those figures are temporary, we can of course decide the range as a group )

For those traveling by air, how are you packing your clubs/bag? Is there an additional fee posed by the airline as it is "bulk" baggage?

I'm getting interested in this, but need more information before I propose this to my wife.

DocT, shouldn't that read... "before I propose to my next wife...?"

BTW, I picked up an SKB case, and have flown with it twice, no problems. Also, I usually fly Southwest, and the club-case simply counts as one of your suit-cases, no extra fee.

I purchased a cheap $20 traval cover and it worked fine when we went to Cabo 2 years ago. I just put a bunch of soft cloths inside the bag between all the club heads and it worked fine. A hard case is nice, but they cost more and take up a lot of room in the house the other 51 weeks a year I'm not travaling to play golf. I don't remember what airline we flew to Cabo, but we didn't have to pay extra for the golf clubs. You might want to check with the airlines to make sure, but I think most of them just count the golf bag as one of your check in luggage. Glad to hear you might be joining us.

DocT,

I've got a cheap hard cover I bought at Kmart a few years back thats still holding up so I'm going to use that. So far I've not been charged anything during my travels but who knows these days.

Don,

Where are you in relation to say Uncompahgre National Forest? I'm thinking of bringing some of my photography gear and maybe trying to find sometime over the weekend to do a little shooting of another sort. I've seen some recommendations of an old ghost town there, Tomboy Ghost Town, that might be nice to shoot some shots at.

Thanks
S

If it's not too much to ask, would it be possible to create a separate locked sticky post about the details of this event at the top of the forum? Only Don and mods can edit and update that thread, but still keep this current thread for questions and smack talk. I'm too lazy to scroll through every page looking for the latest details.

example:
Subject: GGR Invitation 2007
When: September ??, 2007 - Best time to arrive/depart is ???
Where: Don's back yard

Hotel Recommendations

Cost for rounds at XYZ Golf Course

Prize pool/purse

Itinerary
Day 1:
Arrival to Colorado
Check-in to hotels
Meet at ??? for Introductions
Lessons

Day 2:
Day 3-?:

I guess I can start a new post, and give the details of the event. I'll figure out as many of the details as they become set in stone for you guys and gals. Don't want any of you to get a sore wrist clicking thru all those old posts. Might get in the way of a good swing.

There's a par 3 course at the practice range, so we could play 9 holes after a practice session, or there's an execative course just up the road that we could play if that's what you guys want to do.

im in for playing the executive (its a REALLY nice little course for not alot of dough) with whoever wants to go that direction.
its a par 64 (65 womens) with 2 par 5's, 6 par 4's, and 10 par 3's. challenging in spots but always playable.
since ill only be able to play 2 of those weekdays (maybe 3 if one of the days is really early...like 6 a.m.) it would be great to get in a round that sunday even if only a couple other people wanna play. no pressure whatsoever.
if people just wanna practice, then go for it. if people wanna play, then springhill is the place for the warmup round.

it seems there are 2 schools of thought w/ play vs. practice.
we all of course agree that practice is necessary, but some prefer to spend ALOT of time on the range, while others prefer to work out most of the kinks on the course. im obviously the latter. \:\)

I plan to go, but won't make plans until later. I still have to book a flight to Oklahoma for June 6-16th, which will include 2 family reunions, Osage Indian ceremonial dances, and golf. When I come to Colorado, I may still have a few of my feather's left. Will probably book in July/Aug. BTW, me and my friend Rob (who bought the clubs recently, and I'm playing with this week) talked about a golf vacation... so I invited him to Colorado, and he sounds interested. (We might even extend a couple days to go skiing?) So I'll let you know soon if he's coming for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised. golf-nut

Laney, You beat me to it that time, as I'm sure you intended. That reminds me of the old saying.

Speaking of a golf vacation...if anyone wants to join me and some folks at Myrtle Beach in August, let me know. We play 3 or 4 rounds of golf over 3 days and it's a lot of fun. Good group of guys and relatively cheap (excluding your getting there...)...

Sorry Guys and Gals
The cruise this year (end of august) won out over the GGRI. I just could not resist the deal they gave us, same ship, same room, 9 days. We actually put our deposit down before leaving the ship last year but its good for anytime in the future. We didn't plan to go this year, money, jobs, etc.. but the deal they gave us was just too good to pass up. I will miss not seeing and meeting everyone but sometimes golf has to take second place (did I really just say THAT, HERE) I'll probally take a lesson or two on the ship (monitors) and try to get a round in on one of the islands.

FJ,

a cruise? over golf? Say it ain't so? haven't you seen all those news stories lately about the ships breaking down and people being evacuated? That will never happen in Denver....think about that...

Fred, who cares about cruising or, for that matter, even golf. \:o We only go to B.S. each other and eat Don's Pizza.

Anyway, why would you and your wife want to float around in the World's largest latrine? Do you know how many weird critters poop in the ocean? ( I have been trying to find a reason to use this icon forever).

That's fine Fred, for GOLF to take second place... but US taking second place, now that's quite another thing. I'm sure your wife will understand that you don't want to hurt our feelings. You didn't plan to cruise this year anyway!
