I'm new to reading these posts, so maybe someone has already asked this question. How did all of you start playing golf?

for me, i got started when i went into my grandpas storage room and found some of his extra clubs and some golfballs....i grabbed a few of each, and went to the park and started hacking away at it (i was too close to the goal posts in the soccer pitch the first time and wrapped his 4wood around it - ooops)

When I was 10 my parents moved to Ohio and joined a small country club about 1 mile from home. It wasn't much more than a public course with a pool, but it only cost 25 cents to play all day. My brother and I had been used to playing baseball in New Jersey, but in Ohio we had no Little League or Pony League so we got in the habit of going to the course every day. There's (almost) nothing like the thrill of your first solid shot.

I got tricked. Two years ago my wife was talked into playing in her company tournament. Neither of us had ever played before so she went to the GoodWill store with a friend that was also new to golf and purchased a mix of use clubs for $2.00 each. She didn't want to go to the range to practice alone, and that's how I got tricked into going along and it's all down hill from there. We each got a set of new clubs and are now on the second set with no sign of it ever ending. I have a brand new set of Callaway X-16 Pro's I'm not using and four old drivers I rarely hit. And don't ask how many dozen brand new golf balls I was tricked into buying when they were on sale. I'm not telling, but I will not need another a new ball if I live till I'm dead!!!! Don

You lucky dog! You get to blame your wife! That's like the best get-out-of-jail-free card you could ever hope for.

Trip; I don't mind you mentioning my working with you, but please don't blame me if it doesn't help much, it's not my fault if you can't follow my advise long distance.
JW: I can tell from what you wrote that you have never met my wife; it is impossible to blame her for anything, I know, I have tried many times and nothing sticks, it seems it's always my fault not matter what.
JW: This is Don's wife. I have a get-out-of-jail card, too. I can buy anything I want (clothes, hats, a new watch, etc.), as long as I mention that "It would be great for golf."

Thanks for replying to my question. You are all a grand group. I've found over the years that most of the folks who love golf are. I'm amazed at how knowledgeable many of you are about the mechanics of golf. If any of you ever want to come down to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and play some great golf courses, Drop me an e-mail.

Hi Trip; only joking with you,I'm glad I can be of assistance with your game. But you have been playing a lot longer than me so take that into consideration when I offer help. Have you had a chance to use the right index finger tip I sent you by email? Let me know is it works well or not.
Hi Bill H. As much as my wife and I love Mexico, I might have to take you up on that offer. How far are you from a good resort that we could stay at? Any place you would recommend to stay? Not looking for the high end resorts, just someplace nice and reasonable. Don

Don,
You and your wife are welcome anytime. As far as a place to stay, I'm the director of Playa Grande Resort. Look up www.playagranderesort.com
If you have connections with someone, like the director of the place, you might be able to swing a deal and stay there.
Don, most of my life I was in the golf business. I was the pro at 2 private country clubs in California, managed the Palmer Golf Academy for Arnold, was the tournament director for the LPGA for 8 years and directed televised golf for Wide World of Sports on ABC. The problem was being in a different city, or country, 40 some weeks a year and never being home. So I resigned from that life to stay home with my family.
Anyway I can get you a REALLY good deal on any of the courses here. There are 9 great signature courses designed by Nicklaus, Fazio, Dye, Wisecoff.... You'll love it. Drop me an e-mail anytime you want. Till then, Bill
