From your experience as instructor, how long does it take on average, to get good with a driver? I've been playing for 2-1/2 years, but only the last year have I been playing regulation courses. Because I was only playing a par 3 course until recently, I never hit the woods much, so that's the part of my game that needs the most work. Just wondering how long it take the average golfer to get good with a driver. I'm starting to hit some good tee shots, but I'm not happy with the drives yet. I'm 58 next Saturday, any chance I'll learn what I'm doing before it doesn't matter anymore?

Don, it varies incredibly from student to student. Someone with good athletic ability can get good at driving the golf ball in a matter of weeks. Others spend nearly an entire lifetime. Best thing to do - especially if this is a weaker area - is practice it the most. You'll see it improve as you devote time and energy to it. Make sure your driver is a good match for your tempo/swing, etc. and swing like you trust yourself!
