I noticed today that Dick's Sporting goods has a couple drivers from last year for under $200. They have the Big Bertha 460, the Cobra Speed LD (my personal favorite) and the HiBore XL all for $199. That's not bad. The Cobra was $299 just a few months ago. I imagine similar stories about the others. If you're willing to go a few years older, I think Don said GolfSmith had some of the original Hibore's even cheaper.

I just picked up the HiBore XL at Dicks this weekend. I must have hit 300 balls there trying different drivers. This driver with @ 9.5* and a stock S shaft just simply amazed me. I could not hit the SUMO 2 they had at the same price and this was $350 less than the r7 I was swinging. Tried some others, Callaway square head and Ping. I think the only club I hit as well may have been the Ping G10, but for the price I took the HiBore

Chief, what do you think it was about the Sumo 2 that was giving you problems? I've been contemplating these square head drivers, but wondering if it would just be a bad move. Do you think it's mental and you subconsciously change your swing or do you think it's weighted differently or something. I'm due for a new driver this year.. Was the Sumo 2 $199?

A buddy of mine had one of the last years Sumo's square driver and hated it. He said he hit it well in the beginning so it must have just been his swing but pretty soon he felt like he couldn't hit it consistently straight. Didn't sound too forgiving for him even though thats the whole design theory...

I tried the new sumo square at the shop and actually hit it very well, but I thought the shape would be just to distracting in the long run so I'm staying with my Ignite. On the other hand, the new Nike putters in the green color were so fantastic that I am thinking of getting the blade model. I thought all that guff about the color blending in with the grass and the white alighnment stripes standing out was just that, guff.. but I made 10 for 10 putts from about 15 feet so now I think Nike may have something.

I dont exactly know what was the problem with the SUMO2. I probably took about 10 swings with it and either skyed them or pushed the shot really bad. I tried all of Golfsmiths $199 drivers and the HiBore XL was for me the best feel. I hit the regular shaft and 10.5* well, but opted for the stiff 9.5* after fooling around with a couple other clubs, like the Ping g10 and a few others. It may have been mental or maybe just warming up. I also had to get the tee position changed. They had the tee very high and that really messed with my head. I tee the ball just inside my left-heel at about 2 inches high and usually seem to catch the ball well. I actually went into the store with my mind set on the SUMO2. The other club I hit well was the new r7. Just too much cash for me.

Scott; Golfsmith had the non-conforming 10.4* Xl on sale for $150 before Christmas, as well as the older Launcher 460 Comp for $70. Both are real good drivers, especially for the price.

I haven't seen too much in the way of ads for golf sales in the newspaper yet, mostly end of winter sales on sking gear. But that means golf sales are next to hit the ads. At least that's the way it is here in Colorado. The stores sell off their ski and snowboard stock, to make room for new golf inventory.

Aimee: I've seen the older HiBore for that price, but not the XL. They have the XL on sale in todays newpaper ads for $199, which is about normal. If it was the XL for that price, it's a very good price and worth buying if anyone needs a good driver.

It's showing up on the web site as $149.99; I had gotten an email from them, so it could be that it was an email special for those who subscribe..even at $149.99 it's a good deal.

The new XLS is on sale for $299 at Golfsmith, this replaces the XL they have on sale for $149. I paid $199 at Golfsmith about 3 weeks ago. I really like XL. I do not think the XLS warrants the extra $150 at this point. Especially if you reshaft or at least change the grip.

I;m looking forward to trying the XLS and comparing it to both my XL and 460 Comp.

Chief; I got mine online at Golfsmith, for $63. It was on sale for $70 less 10 %. The one I got was like new condition, minus a head cover, which I later got for $5 at a local Golfsmith store. I got a R flex 10.5* model with the factory Launcher shaft. I wanted a S flex, but they didn't have any at the time, so I got a R flex. I'd say that for a R flex, it feels pretty firm, firmer than some other R flex shafts I've tried. Just not firm enough for my swing. If your swing is under 100MPH, it might work out fine. After I replaced the shaft with a 77 gram S flex, I really like the Comp. A friend of mine hit it, and said my Comp is 20 yards longer than his new Geek dot com this driver. In all honesty, I don't see how you could wrong buying this driver if you need a new toy, and if they have one with the loft and flex you need. I posted a review on the 460 Comp on this site, so you might want to read it also. Even if you end up installing a new shaft, it's hard to find a head this good for the price of this driver. I don't think any of the drivers in the last 2 to 3 years can be beat. Some a little better than others, but the main thing is to get one with a shaft that fits your game and the correct loft for you.
