Noticed some water spots on ceiling in 2 areas of the house, trying to figure out where it's coming from based on the layout...think it's the vent stack on the roof over my master bath, likely the seal is cracked...and we are supposed to get a ton of rain the next couple of days. I've got to get up into the attic and see if I can confirm. Co-worker had the same issue a couple of years ago...gonna cost me over $500 for sure.
Of course, roof is 10 years old (not likely the cut-corner builder used 20-25 year shingles) so I've got that looming in the future...

Okay, how did my name get messed up it this confusion? In and case I hope Aimee gets it fixed before it rains a lot and make a bigger problem. Let's hope it's only a vent leaking and not the shingles at fault. Don't be tooooo hard on Scott. The guy doesn't drink coffee, so you can't expect him to be wide awake very often.

Went up into the attic since it was raining today and sure enough saw a trickle of water coming down the pvc pipe. Saw a little spot of daylight up where it goes out the roof. Tied some rags around the pipe to hopefully absorb most of the water. I have called several roofers but they aren't in any kind of hurry to get out here since it isn't a big "payday" job. *sigh*
Bo, it isn't a flat roof, it's the typical pitched type, or I think the problem would have been worse!

You might be able to just go buy a collar of some kind at a home improvement store and fix it yourself. Might want to take a photo of the pipe and where it's leaking so the guy in the store understands exactly what you're problem is. Shouldn't be too hard to fix and a lot cheaper than having a plumber come out. Just an idea.

Don, it's really a roofing issue. They have to pull up shingles and re-do the flashing/seal it to make it waterproof. I'm not going up there and neither is my husband, it's on a steeply pitched area and too dangerous, so we'll have to wait for a contractor to decide they can spare 10 minutes to look at it.

Gorilla Glue...that stuff fixes ANYTHING!!!!!! That's what you need...a $4 tube of Gorilla glue.

If it weren't so high up (we'd need to use a ladder up in the attic, which is incredibly risky) I'd shoot some caulk or something up around the seam.

actually got a call back from one of the roofers and he was really nice on the phone, he'll have someone out to check it out next week. At least after Saturday it's dry for a couple of days.

hope everything goes ok with the roofers - just get the one that makes you feel happy. (I do agree with getting somebody else in - my wife thinks that my diy stands for destroy it yourself!)
if its flashing though I would still get a few quotes and go for the one in the middle

trust me - I've just spent £3k on a new roof as we had mould starting to spread in the childrens rooms, which aint that good!
