Hey guys, I'm heading to Myrtle Beach in 9 days for 3 days of golf with some buddies (open invitation to anyone on the board BTW) We'll be playing a couple of supposedly really nice courses and I thought I'd post here in case anyone has visited there and played these. Our courses are:

Mytrle Beach National - West Course (not that great a course)

Myrtle Beach National - Kings North

International Wordl Tour

King's North and World Tour are 2 premier courses I hear. World Tour has copies of the great holes around the world. Should be fun to see how I do on Amen Corner!

Anyway, if you've played any of these, let me know what you thought.

Scott, do me a favor, and bring me back a score card for any course you play. I like to check them out and see how I might play the holes. And I might have to get back east and play Myrtle Beach some time just for fun. The prices are real good when you stay at a resort from what I see. Depending on the season of course, but it's pretty reasaonable.

Definitely let everyone know...I have access to a place down there (I don't know exactly where it is, it is a friend's parent's place) and hope to make a short trip later in the Fall.

Don, be glad too. Tell you what, where possible, I'll bring you a yardage book so you can better visualize the course.

Cost is cheap. We're playing 3 rounds w/ 2 nights in a brand new 3BR condo for $250/person. Golf is $192/per for all 3 rounds. August, while hot, is the time for cheap rounds at great courses there...

Aimee, if you have access you should definately come down. I'll do a write up once I'm back of the courses and let you know how they were...

Hi Scott,

We are playing Old Fort Golf Course on Tuesday morning. OF is between Wilmington and Southport on highway 133. After that we will be going to Little River to spend the night. Harbor View is a nice par three course in LR. I haven't played any of the big courses in MB as yet. Cutting my teeth at Old Fort as it is a fairly wide open course and not too crowded. Enjoy MB!

Scott, Oak Island is about 45 minutes from my home in Wilmington. I'm going to OI tonight. I drive for a Limousine Service and I have a pick up there. It is a anniversary job, taking a couple out for dinner then dropping them off at Sea Trail Golf Resort and Villas in Sunset Beach, NC. My girlfriend lives in Little River, SC and that is only about 20 miles from Sunset Beach. Just gonna keep the limo and stay with her tonight and tomorrow night then come home Monday morning.

Have fun in Myrtle! For a great steak, eat at New York Prime.

Sounds good Scott. If you played in MB on Sunday, I don't have to tell you how hot it was! We went to the driving range Sunday and it was 96!

Flew in from NY on Wed evening. Two of us. Checked into Legends Resort. Scheduled 5 courses thru Sat morning. Goal was to play a very different venue each round. Had to be careful to schedule courses fairly close as it gets dark around 6PM and we wanted to get in both rounds with no trouble. All courses had to be top notch, visually beautiful, great condition and challenging. Thurs was cold and wet. Played Heathland at Legends in the morning. Beautifully laid out links track and somewhat unique in Myrtle Beach. Designed by Tom Doaks, this course feels like the old sod. Just a blast to play. Very deceiving greens, great colors. One of my favorites and highly recommended. Got rained out at Man O War in the afternoon. Because we booked the whole thing thru Legends, Man O War credited the whole price back vs. issuing a rain check. No problems, very professional treatment. Ended up spending the afternoon at Martin's Golf Store. Incredible place if you haven't been. Drinks and dinner at T-Bonz on Rt. 17. Not great, but fine for a nasty night.
Friday started out wet, but cleared up by the 4th hole. We played Parkland at Legends. Designed by the Legends Group in the style of Alistair Mackenzie (Augusta) and George Thomas (Riviera). A very old time feel with modern length. Visually appealling and a very challenging course from the tips at 7170 yards at 74.9/136. More housing than last year, but in a private community. The homes are not intrusive and attractive for the most part so it doesn't take away anything from the course or its woodsland setting. Good place to play. The afternoon round was at Arnie's King's North. I find this course just beautiful in every way. Every kind of hole, every shot in the bag required. Nice vistas from every vantage point. Wonderful conditioning from tee to green. Lots of water, but much of it is not in play and is more for esthetics...works well. Should be played when visiting Myrtle. Drinks and dinner at Angelo's Italian Steak House. Just perfect after a long day. Easy, acommodating, good food and terrific service.
Saturday we headed south to play TPC. Absolutely Spectacular. Expensive by Myrtle standards, but we felt it a bargain when compared to courses of equal quality, challenge, condition and stature elsewhere in the country. Play it if you want to experience the best of South Carolina. Designed by Tom Fazio with consultation by Lanny Wadkins. 6950 from the tips. We played the golds at 6600 with a 72.2/136 rating & slope. Fantastic hole layouts, scenic to the max and a terrific challenge in every way. The clubhouse is top notch with good food as well. This was my first time here and will be on my must play list for a long time going forward. Highly recommended.
Here's the deal: 2 guys at Legends in a really nice 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo including a huge breakfast every morning, a drink at night on the house and all practice facilities (considered one of the best layouts in Myrtle Beach). I picked the 5 courses. The entire thing inclusive of accomodations, greens fees, carts and taxes came to $479 per man (actually $422 after receiving the credit for our rain out). All in all, even with the iffy weather at this time of year, it was

mybluc4, thanks for the nice report. The surprise at the end was the reasonable cost, though Scott keeps telling us prices here are reasonable. Sounds like a good GGR Invitational location...

Mybluc4, awesome, glad you got to play some nice courses. I visit there a lot , at least a couple times a year. Love TPC and King's North. Man O War is fun (for the rest of you, it's built on a 100 acre marsh so water is freaking everywhere....) but not in that the same category. Legends is an awesome facility, what did you think of their practice facility?

Now if you're coming back down there again, I would offer a few more top-notch courses for you to play: International World Tour (right where you were playing already location-wise), The Dunes, The Grand Dunes, and any of the Barefoot Resort courses. All top notch but as you said, pricing is very reasonable if you factor in what you pay to play top tier courses in other parts of the country. Having played Pinehurst #2 and knowing thats like $325/round, playing an afternoon round at TPC for $70 or Kings North for $80 during the week is a down right steal. Even at the rack rates of $120-150, it's still a deal to me as I could get 2-3 rounds at top courses for one round at #2.....but it is #2 \:\)

I usually play in MB twice a year.. This year we'll be staying at Legends.. and be playing 5 of their courses including TPC.. I find it is best to work with a golf organizer as they can(should) give you advice about where to play , aeration schedules and conditions.. Let me know if you want the name of a good one..

mybluc4, this is a great recap. I've done an MB tour in the past as well, but only played Brunswick, Lion's Paw, and Panther's Run. Can you do us a favor and submit reviews of the courses you played when you get a chance? From the way you described them below, you'd probably do a great job at helping folks out with full reviews..

Thanks for considering.. (and you'd also be in the running for the March contest!)

Hi everyone,

First-time poster here.
I've been to Myrtle Beach several times over the years and have had the opportunity to play a bunch of the courses down there. I was never greatly impressed by the Myrtle Beach National courses or setup.
Kings North is a really outstanding place and, of course, it's an Arnold Palmer layout!
I've heard great things about the International World Tour place, but haven't seen it.
I loved the Wild Wing group of courses, but most of those are gone and are now hotels, parking lots or IHOPS!
Look forward to becoming an active member of the site!

I just saw your reply to me in March (I forgot I had joined this forum) I have played a lot, but not all of the courses in MB,, Legends is first rate and housing and a great practice area is right there.. Barefoot os fine, but somewhat over priced.. The Heather Glen Condos are on that sourse with Glen Dornach across the street.. I suppose my favorite courses there are Glen Dornach, Tidewater, Heritage, Moorland, Good courses are Myrtlewood Palmetto, Farmstead & meadow lands, Possum Trot. Places I wouldn't go to again are.. Eagles Nest, Arcadian Shores (just went under new management so the jury is out) Indian Wells..
There is a ton to choiose from in MB.. suggestion go to Myrtle Beach golf talk.. a BB run by a golf trip organizer.. with a lot of folks that have played every course in MB foor years.. There is a lot going on at the moment.. My favorite, Legends was just foreclosed on by GE Capitol and has been put under new Mgmnt.. word is.. it's seamless but time will tell.. The big fire there impacted some of the Barefoot courses.. so best to work with someone there that has an up to date idea about issues that acourse might have..
