I've been looking for some web sites that review Golf GPS units - I like the stuff at criticalgolf.com ( Critical Golf) but they don't have the Garmin Approach covered yet (although their site says it's "coming soon"). They do have a review of the OnPar touch screen device.

Anyone have any other places I should be looking?

Hello Improving....you could look through the Gear/Equipment section here, many of us have talked about the ones we have.

I have not used the Garmin personnaly though

Improving, trying using the search box on the site to look up reviews on the GPS units. Try this: http://www.golfgearreview.com/google.html?cx=partner-pub-4756603312007865%3A2we9hiubftc&cof=forid%3A10&ie=iso-8859-1&q=gps+review&sa=search#1177

Thanks guys. Looks like criticalgolf.com just added a review of the Garmin Approach G5 ( Critical Golf Garmin Review ) - and they liked it. Now I have to decide between the uPro and the Garmin. My big concern about the Garmin is its size...it looks like a giant egg. Seems like these devices are definitely all getting better!

Well, once you decide, please do us a favor and submit a review. I'm sure there are a lot of others like you who are searching for good reviews on these GPS units. They seem to be all the rage these days. Although, I for one think they might take a little fun out of it, but I'm not good enough to be judgemental, hahaha..

Improving,

I looked closely at the uPro but the cost was an issue for me. If I recall correctly, don't you pay per course you download? Or you can buy a block of credits for courses?

Now another question I had with it, was if the course wasn't mapped for the aerial view, what did you see onscreen? That wasn't clear to me. Cause it looks like not all courses have map guarantees though I'm not sure what that means either smile

But also looks like Callaway just bought them...

And I know nothing about the Garmin...Good luck though and please post a review once you've tried it out.

Scott, I remember reading somewhere that some of the SkyCaddie GPS units are made by Garmin, but I could have it wrong. Just what I remember reading somewhere.

Don, there were a few models, SG2 and SG3 I think, that were re-branded ones. The Sg5 and SG2.5 were the new models SkyGolf made themselves, as I understand it.

I saw an advertisement for the GolfBuddy (Thought of the bathroom buddy from 'Gremlins')on the Golf Channel. It is supposed to have 20,000 courses in memory and requires no subscription or purchase of extra software. ANy comments on this?
