I just read one of the last product reviews and I found an error that should be corrected. I'd like to have some way for this to take place. Maybe so the Admin and MOderators can make changes to correct errors. Does anyone have a problem with this idea? Assumeing the review is marked as being edited that is.

Don, the reviews are not part of the forums software, so the only way to edit them is if you give me the review ID number and the change. Then I can go in and make the modification. Let me know what the details are and I'll go take a look. Next to the review in parenthesis is the review ID number.

I think you will be able to find the review I was typing of without any numbers. It was I'm sorry to say YOUR review on the Zero Friction tees. You said they come in 2 sizes, but in fact they come in 4 sizes. They also come in 1-3/4" and 4" lengths. Don't know about now, but when I talked to the company rep, the 4" tees were not being sold in stores, and mostly just a tee for the Long Drive guys. I use the 1-3/4" tees for all my tee shots with an iron, and the 4" tees for the driver IF I'm feeling BRAVE enough.

Here you go Chris. Don't want to say it, but I found my review right where you put it.

Review: Zero Friction Golf Tees

Don Fisher
Posted 2008-01-10

Zero Friction Tees come in an assortment of both sizes and colors. You can get them in these sizes: 1-3/4: 2-3/4”, 3-1/4”, and for the Long Drive tour, a 4” tee. The 1-3/4” tees are new, and are designed especially for your irons and hybrid clubs. All the tees are made of a Biodegradable material, which means you’re not polluting the tee box when you play. Each tee has 3 prongs on top, which reduce friction for longer and straighter tee shots. An added bonus it that they last almost forever. Prices vary with length. The 1-3/4” size come in a 25 pack, 2-3/4’ come in a 50 pack, and the 3-1/4 tees come in a 35 pack. There are available at most all golf shops. Check their website for choices of color.

HOW IT WORKS: The whole idea behind this tee is to reduce the friction between the ball and the tee at impact. It only makes sense that if the friction is reduced, there will be less cause for the ball to fly off line, and less friction should mean a little more ball speed. This is something that has been talked about ever since these tees have been available. Some people will say this friction thing is a big waste of time. Others have found it really works. All I know is that one of the major golf magazines did a test a few years back, and there was as much as 37 yards more carry distance when using different length and type of tee. This was done with a swing robot, to eliminate human error. In this test they started with a 2-1/8” wooden tee, and went up to a 3-1/4” Zero Friction Tee. Carry yardage went up some 37 yards. The hard thing to do is for us humans to duplicate this test on our own. Being human, we can’t make the exact same swing time after time. And this makes it hard to tell just how much more distance we will get with this tee. All I can tell you is that the longest drive I ever hit was with one of these Zero Friction Tees. Carry yardage was 290 yards with of all things a cheap range ball. How much of that 290 yards was due to the Zero Friction Tee, and how much was me making a good swing, I’ll never know. But I do know the tee didn’t hurt any, and I’d love the have hit a good tour quality ball with that drive. Hard to say how far a tour ball would have gone.

What I haven’t mentioned let is how good these tees are in term of breakage. Let me give you one small example of this. My wife isn’t very long off the tee, so she hits her driver on an average of 15 holes per round. That’s all the par 5s, all the par 4s. and maybe one long par 3. In a normal round of golf, she'll break a wooden tee on about half of those shots. That means she’ll go though 7 or 8 of the long wooden tees. With the Zero Friction tees, she’s yet to break one. Not one broken tee in the last 8 rounds of golf. Granted, wooden golf tees aren’t very expensive, but it still adds up. And not having to carry a dozen or more long tees in the bag, is pretty nice. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to give my wife one of my tees when she was about out of her own. Now all she has to carry is 3 tees for the whole round. One the use, and 2 spares in case she loses the first one.

WHAT IT’S GOOD FOR: The short 1-3/4” tees are great for hitting irons on the par 3’s. In the past when I hit an iron off a tee, I almost always broke the tee. And most all wooden tees are too long for hitting irons. You need to really push the thing way down into the ground. If you play golf with dry hard tee boxes, this can me a pain in the neck, if not someplace else. Here in Colorado, we don’t get a lot of rain, and the tee boxes are more often than not quite hard. Being able to use the short Zero Friction comes in handy. Again, an added bonus is that I can use one tee for all the par 3’s and not have to worry about breaking them. It’s not the money; it’s not having to carry a bunch of extra tees in my bag. One or two is all I need for the par 3’s. For hitting a modern 460CC driver, both my wife and I prefer the 3-1/4” tees. I think that the 2-3/4 “ tee is just a little too short for a driver, but I’m sure a lot of golfers will disagree with this. My advise is to try both the 2-3/4” tees and the 3-1/4” tees, and see what you like the best. For me, the only time I use the 2-3/4” tees is when I hit a fairway wood off the tee. I don’t need the longer tee, and the short tees are too short, so the 2-3/4” tees are just right.

WHY YOU NEED SOME: There are three good reasons I recommend these tee. First, they come in every length you will ever need. Second, they don’t break all the time, and a pack of them will last for years. My guess is you will lose more of them than you will break. Third, while I can’t tell you will gain 37 yards off the tee with your driver, I can tell you, you will gain some yardage, and your drives will be straighter. Ask yourself one simple question. How much did you spend on a new driver in hopes of gaining a few more yards, and hit a few more fairways? Most new drivers cost $300 or more, and they don’t come with a guarantee of longer and straighter drives. What I’m saying is this. Even if you only gain a few more yards and only hit one more fairway with the Zero Friction Tees, it’s worth it. You’re not going to be spending any more money in the long run, because the tees last so long. So why not use a tee that might just gain you 37 yards, as in that test the golf magazine conducted? You can be sure you will not lose any yardage, so any yardage you gain is a bonus on top of the money you will save over the next few years. To be honest, I’d be surprised if you don’t gain 5 or 10 yards with your driver, if not more. I say this because that’s about what I believe I’m getting. While I can’t speak for everyone, I sure know I’m not going to buy another wooden tee for the rest of my life. What I am going to do is see if I can talk Excel Golf Products out of some more of those 4” Long Drive tees. The limit on tee length is 4”s. and I love those things. The first time you tee up a ball with a 4” tee, it looks real scary, and a SKY Ball is the first thing you will think of. And if you don’t swing UP at the ball, that’s exactly what you’ll get. But if you do swing up at the ball, the taller the tee the better your chance for a really long drive. The fact is, the taller the tee, the easier it is to increase your launch angle and reduce the backspin at the same time. If you can do that, you hit the ball farther. It’s that simple.

Since my in-depth review doesn't count for the prizes, I guess I need to post a new review? I'd be happy to do that for you and get in my first entry in this months drawing.

Oh yeah, forgot about that one. Thought you were referring to a reader review. This has been corrected. You should consider starting your own website Don.

You can hang onto that feather, the shipping cost wouldn't be worth it.
