Chief's post about playing with his buddies who all had colorful nicknames made me think that was a fun thing to ask about. First of all, nicknames are a male phenomena. Women do not give each other nicknames (except for b*tch, and that's not one given out of affection in most cases).
Share some of the fun/interesting/colorful nicknames you have given your friends/family.
My husband's friends all have nicknames from college that they use more than their real names, and many of them were no doubt created in the haze of illegal substances in the late 70's.
Example: he has a friend called "the eggman"...this came out of some bizarre scene in a John Waters movie. Said gentleman is now an attorney and almost became a Federal Judge.
Others are sometimes profane variations on their names, so I'll pass on trying to explain them in a family forum.

To continue with the nicknames. Garfield, my friend Steve has kinda bulging lazy eyes and has the sneaky good golf game. With a 230 yard average drive you always wonder how he is putting for par every hole. Is he pulling one over on you like a Garfield? Nope just sneaky good.

Most of my friends, including me, go by a variation or shortening of their last name, no colorful nicknames.

I got Klun(me), Brez, Cox, Puck, Push, Lindy, Binky, Dan-O, and Sypee. Then there are the plays on these simple nicknames, most notable, would be Puck Puck or Pushy.

Now, my Dad has multitudes of friends that he mentions by nickname, but the funny thing is that his nickname was Klun, my sister's nickname was Klun, heck, even my wife is now just called Klun. My dad's friend TC summed it up best when he said, "Klun, you don't need a nickname, and even if we could come up with one, nothin' would be better than Klun"

Don was telling me he had some friends that had nicknames. Let's see, there was "Billy The Kid," "Sundance," "Bat," "Calamity Jane," "Wild Bill."
You know, Don might be a bit older than the rest of us.

Hmmm. My dad used to call me Hardhead (he said I was so hard headed), one of my aunts calls me Barney, another calls me Barn, and my mom calls me baby boy (even though I'm in my 40's). My wife calls me baby or m*ther fu*ker, depending on her mood.

Barney, Barney, Baby Boy.........I'm glad you finally decided to join us. I know you would have done so months ago if you weren't so hard headed.
