About what age do you guys recommend taking your kids to golfing lessons? What is a reasonable price limit to spend on a young golfer and their training?

I started my daughter around 6yr old for a 30 minute lesson here and there...nothing really strict or competitive.

I know that they have kid's golf camp during the summer at the range at our muni course, it's a great way to see how strong the interest is without a huge outlay of cash. Group lessons, fun for the kids. Here's the link to the brochure so you can see what age groups and what kinds of costs:

Some kids just want to whack at the range and goof around, once someone starts telling them there are rules and stuff they lose interest!

Ace..
What about the First Tee Program....?
I am sure they have programs for all age groups....

Chris...
Maybe you could get First Tee...Pittsburg, Pa. to join Forum and maybe post an information sheet on what parents could expect by having their children join First Tee...As long it is not used for "babysitting" services, it should be "great" for young children for the summer vacation....

You know Self, I'm not sure if First Tee is supposed to be for disadvantaged youths or if it's open to all kids. I can't recall seeing a specific statement either way. You can get more information here, though:

Thanks Chris...

Your link says: "It brings together all children from any
financial background....We have 2 in the Richmond, Va. area...
One in the inner city....1 in the more affluent Chesterfield County....I have heard nothing but positives...any age or ethnic group can use the facilities to practice or play (nominal fee)...

My daughter is 4 months old, and I read the Rules of Golf book to her. Think it's too early?

Wife is just afraid that daughter's first words will be "PAR" instead of "da-da" or "ma-ma." crazy

Register her on the forum. It would be nice to have someone around here that knows what's in that book.

Thanks Self. I guess I could have read that better. That's awesome though and how it should be. Hopefully if this continues as planned I can get my little one involved too someday. I'm supposed to hear something from these guys by Thursday. I guess there was a board meeting to review the proposal.

I'm really impressed with the inclusion of values in the teaching method too. Just makes for a nice package for little learners..

Wow, I've talked to someone in Houston who oversees the city's involvement. They have their own course here, and regular practices. I didn't realize it was for all children. I would definitely check it out for my children, unless I had a club membership for them.

I don't think there's an age limit on most sports, personally. Even if it's just reading the rule book because they're too young to hold a club, getting kids involved in athletics is simply a good idea.

How much money to spend I would say is really a personal decision. Some will want smaller clubs or private lessons that cost more, while others will be okay with larger, cheaper camps. My suggestion: don't start spending a lot until you are sure that your child is loving the sport.
