What is the typical way to figure your handicap

I think the usual way is to submit scores to a handicap service, online or at your home course. Too much trouble to do the math yourself! Also, to be official with the USGA it has to be kept by an authorized agent. Here are a couple of links. The first one explains a little about how to do it. Tom, Yahoo has a free handicap tool on their website. it's not exactly the same as the USGA because the USGA doesn't give away their exact formula but it's pretty darn close.

Bill I believe is playing off -3

USGA says a 4 but its getting higher as my not so great rounds start taking effect...Playing more like a 6-8.

No, she never showed...the course must really be cutting back. given how many hot it was and how many people were out on the course and NO beverage cart. None. Oh well, I made up for it once I got home.

But I would have enjoyed some cool wine!

That's a shame about the beverage cart or lack there of. It's too bad, I didn't know about it earlier. I would have had a lemon-ade stand set up. I could have made a killing, if they let me on the course with it.

Birdie, I've considered becoming a cart girl. They let the cart girl who plays play for free at my course.

I don't have an official handicap, but I went to that webpage I posted and put in my last six scores, and it gave me 23.1.

My handicap (official) is 17.0 as of Wednesday. But I posted 2 lousy rounds (actually a 9 hole + an 18) just after, so it will likely creep up a little unless I post 2 good scores. Since I have a tournement coming up at the end of the month, I'm not too eager for my GHIN to be too low.

My handicap is 14 as far is I can figure from the formular on the site laney gave me, but this is only with useing three scores

The way it works "officially" is they take the 10 scores with the lowest differential between the course rating and your score. So if you have a handicap of around 18, and play the same course all the time (as an example) and shoot (4) rounds of 90, (1) round of 100, (1) round of 85, (4) rounds of 95...the 100 and the 85 are tossed out. Basically it's a way to make sure your blow up rounds are treated as anomolies.
You don't have a handicap until you post 10 scores so a scoring average can be established.
