Here are the details for the 2009 U.S. Open Golf Pool. Please note the following:

1. Only registered forum members are eligible to win.

2. Only one free entry per registered member, you MUST use your forums display name (e.g. "ChrisB") to be eligible.

3. The winner will be the entry with the lowest aggregate score for their team at the end of all four rounds.

4. I have used the World Golf Ranking (as of Sunday, June 14) for the Top 50 golfers, and then for anyone that wasn't ranked in the top 50, I set their rank to 50. Your team total rank MUST add up to 100 or greater, or the system will reject your entry form.

3. Top Prize $200 Golfsmith gift card, Second Prize $100 Golfsmith gift card, third prize $50 Golfsmith gift card. If there is a tie for each position, all parties tied will win the prize. (Yikes, I know, this could get costly, but just giving back some love here)

4. Entry form will be disabled on or about midnight, Wednesday, June 17, 2009 Eastern Standard Time. Don't forget to get your entry in, and tell all your golf buddies too!

Good Luck!

If anyone sees any problems with the list of players, the functionality of the pool itself, or the rankings, please contact me via PM immediately.

Current forum members please note: This pool was designed as a fun way to drive membership also. If you have friends that golf and might have fun with something like this, please forward this post to them and encourage them to sign up for the forums and participate in this pool. I thought my team of Tiger, Stewart Cink, Chad Campbell, and KJ Choi would be original, but the only one that no one else has used is KJ. frown

Aimee, you may want to redo your picks. Trevor Immelman has withdrawn from the US Open due to tendinitis in his left wrist and elbow.

Trevor Immelman withdraws from U.S. Open
Trevor Immelman withdrew from the 2009 U.S. Open Championship on Sunday, because of tendinitis in his left wrist and elbow.

The alternate who will take his place is Clinton Jensen of Jupiter, Fla., who competed in sectional qualifying on June 8 in Orlando, Fla. Jensen shot rounds of 69-69 at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club to earn the first alternate position.

Jensen will take a spot in the 8:06 a.m. group off the 10th tee on Thursday, joining Luke Donald of England and Tim Clark of South Africa.

Chris, I don't see Brain Guy on the list. He made it into the open this past Sunday by winning. Can you add his name to the list by tonight? Thanks.

Brain Guy, is that the dude whose brain is outside his skull?
Brian Gay is probably more likely to play golf.

Don, I found an article confirming this. He is ranked 35 on the World Golf Rankings, so I added him with that number in the pool. He should be out there now. Let me know if you have any problems adding him, he's probably near the bottom of the list on the drop downs..

Brain, Brian, what's the difference? We didn't have typing class when I went to school, Hell, we didn't even have typewriters back then. Cut the old guy a little slack.

tick tock, tick tock... I may let this go until I wake up in the morning - as long as we're closed out before the first group tees off I guess. You may want to text message your friends, relatives, and others that golf or are interested in golf. Lots of money up for grabs.. then again, maybe no one is sharing because they want all the prizes to themselves... duh... why didn't I think of that...

Round 2 scores updated. I only had about 70 golfers to update based on the U.S. Open site. I happened to be out golfing today and not watching.. I'm guessing about half the field didn't make the cut? do they do the cut after the first round? The last few tournaments the cut occurred after the second round - am I mistaken?

you are right on the mark, chris.
In the U.S. Open, it's low 60 and ties and everybody within 10 shots of the lead.
In this instance, that should have worked out to about 60 golfers. (although I didn't confirm that figure. just what i heard).
They cut after the second round, which occurred late Saturday afternoon.
are we starting to work on our "I'm sick" excuses to watch this thing end Monday?????

Learn a new thing every day, huh? Haha. Thanks Mike.

Seriously, it would be a lot of fun to take work off to see how this thing ends up. I'm sure like most, though, it will just be a lot of "unauthorized" internet surfing during the day for updates.

looks like Phil's 3rd round score is incorrect. shows at an 80 for me. Should be 69. Not gonna help me with my bad chad campbell pick but may help someone else.

Yes, I noticed that as well. I've seen a Tiger Score out there with 80. Once I have a minute this evening I'll get that corrected..

Ok, it seemed to be a simple fix. Please check your scores and let me know if it looks OK. Had one digit out of place in the code that updates the third round scores for each golfer.

87 - Interestingly, the official u.s. open leaderboard doesn't show Cambell's second round score now, do you have somewhere I can verify that? After the first round, when the players didn't make the cut they seemed to disappear from the scoring summary on their website, so since they didn't make the cut I had them updated to 80's. Not that it makes much of a difference at this point, but I would like to update it.

I'm perplexed. Did they cut guys after the very first round?
I noticed that alot of guys who didn't make the cut were assigned scores of 80 for the second round.
If they cut guys after the second round, like most tournaments, then it seems like their actual second round score would be posted for round 2, followed by an automatic 80 for rounds 3 and 4.

Wouldn't help me anyway, as my picks were bad, but it might make a difference for another contestant.

I noticed some errors too. 2 of my players (Allenby and Toms) are posting 80's for round 2 as well.

That rain delay really messed up everything. frown

As I noted in a previous post, the leaderboard on the official USGA U.S. Open site dropped any golfers who did not make the cut after each round, so there was no visibility to their scores at the end of the round. I plan to update these, but I need your feedback to let me know which player, and which round needs adjusted at this point.

The scores for the golfers that DID make the cut should be correct, however.

I believe it's a quaint old saying that I heard growing up .... decades ago!

The blind pig occasionally finds an acorn!

Those picks were more numbers-related. Thought Tiger was a lock and then started looking for reasonable guys that everybody else might not have picked.
Glover is very solid, Mahan's streaky. Furyk was a disappointment.
