Are you swayed by celebrity golfer endorsements on the equipment you buy? Does having a professionals name attached to a ball or club make you more likely to consider that product?

Not me. I've never been the "I want to play what Tiger plays..." type person. I don't think I could even tell you what pro's play what anything. I realize that as good as the pro's are, they can be really good with any product. And someone has to take Wilson's money. So no, I don't get caught up in that.

I agree with Scott, I don't play anything specifically because a celebrity or certain pro plays it.

I do however notice some clubs more because guys on the tour whom I like watching are playing them. I would say I do notice them both for the good & bad. Some players I like play clubs that I'm not a fan of, and vice versa.

Celebrity/Pro endorsements does nothing for me. I'm not a pro, nor can I hit like Tiger.

About the only piece of equipment that I would be influened on buying, would be the shafts used by the pros. The ProForce V2 is one example. It's a good shaft, and I figure if it's good enough for Jim Fuyrk, it must be a pretty good shaft. And it's not a $300 shaft, it's only $69.

I like the pink shaft Bubba Watson uses...

I think that Don is correct on this point...
But most use tour stiff or xxx stiff...I don't know how that will equate with Regular or Senior shafts...Will flex equal the
same in a quality shaft, or, isit apple and oranges with swing speed.
I did play Yonex back in the day when Phil Mick. played them and actually loved them...Shafts and heads were all graphite even irons. They also made their own shafts. smile

If I play with a product because a pro or celebrity uses it, will that make me play like them? No.
People like to validate their purchase decisions by pointing to someone who has a lot of skill or fame to say "hey, I must know something if I use the same as they do".
Total bunk.

No, I don't care what the pros play.

Don, one of my friends has a ProForce V2 Hi Launch in his Ping G10 driver. I didnt' have my glasses on, so I couldn't read the flex. Man, that thing was so light and flexible, even I couldn't hit it. Which one is good, the non-hi launch?

Laney, both of the V2 shafts can be a good shaft to get, it just depends on what fits the golfer. I happen to really like the 76 gram V2, not the hi launch one. The V2 comes in weights from 55 grams on up to 85 grams. For ME, the 76 gram model has the weight I like, for a more controlled swing, and a lower torque for better accuracy. At this time, ALL the major OEM's are putting lighter and lighter shafts in their driver, with the claim of higher clubhead speeds. I don't agree with this claim, as my testing tells me it's not true. I've been measureing my speed with a driver, and I get the same clubhead speed with shafts from 45 grams up to 78 grams. Not just ONE time, but EVERY time I measure my speed.

It seems that the OEMs are in business to make money, and marketing new technology is good for this purpose. I don't know how important improving our games is in their corporate strategy. I'm not accusing them of this. It's just that, I've been offered a variety of clubs to try at the range, and I seem to get the best results from traditional technology.

Celebrity endorsements do nothing for me. I go strictly by personal experience and recommendations from friends or pros from whom I have taken lessons. Tiger has never seen my swing. How could he know what golf club is right for me?
