So what is the exact etiquette for teeing off when playing with a woman? Let's say it's the first hole. Do the men hit first, then drive up to the women's tees for her to hit? If that's the case (and it seems to be from the times I have played with women), I would almost think that the woman may feel a bit more pressure. I would like to hear some of the ladies' feedback on this.

Rob, we sort of play it by ear. Most of the time, yeah, since the ladies tee is up from the men's tee, we hit then drive up and let her hit. But to speed up play, if the tee's are close enough we let her tee off whenever she feels like the group in front is out of range and then the men hit when they're able to. But that's us sort of playing ready golf.

My problem is, and I wind up apologizing for this at least once a round, is that if the lady isn't in my cart, once the men hit and start to drive on, somewhere/sometime, I'll drive on forgetting the lady hasn't hit and that they're cart has to stop. Especially if my cart was in front of the other one, I'll forget and drive to my ball. So like I said, I apologize at least once a round like that.

Hi Rob. I often play with three men. Where I usually play, it's ready golf. It's a busy public course, and there's a marshal cracking his whip.

Occasionally, I'm all ready to go before any of the guys, and I will tee off first. Given that I'm hitting from the ladies tees, my drive is in about the same place as everyone else's, so I don't automatically go first for that reaaon.

Most all of the time, the guys tee off first. If they are comfortable, I will mosey up to my tee box after the second tee shot and be ready to walk up immediately after the third man. I always ask them as play begins. Generally, people aren't bothered by my position to the side of the tee ahead of them, but some people find it distracting, especially if they are prone to being wild off the tee. Sometimes, e.g., if it's a hundred yards to the ladies tees, I'll wait and ride up after everyone has hit.

Thanks for asking. It is distracting for me to feel three sets of eyes watching me, but I'm getting used to it, as I need and want to do. I accept it as part of the game. If you want to be sensitive, stop your cart somewhat behind her, or just ahead of her so that your line of sight doesn't include her. You could ask her what she'd prefer.

It's slower having to deal with more than one set of tees, so hopefully everyone playing is sensitive to the need to keep things moving. It's really frustrating when my group is slow and the marshal expects that I am the problem.

Thank you both for your input...
What I have begun to do lately is not even move the cart until she has hit the ball as to not be putting any pressure on her and making her feel like there is no huge rush...or I simply leave her with the cart for her to drive up and I will walk up after she hits.

You old guys ride way too many carts when you play. What ever happened to walking the course?

I walk lots of time. But from mid-June through Sept, it can be easily 95+ so unless I'm getting out early, the courses I play are not a pushover to walk in 95+ degrees. Plus, unless I play late in the day on weekends, you still have to pay for a cart even if you walk. Most of my golf with women come when I play resort courses while on vacation, and many times those won't let you walk without paying the cart fee, so if I'm gonna pay it, might as well use it.

Generally, I agree with you, Don, but even I have been riding lately. Right now, it's 101*. I often play at this time. (less crowded). I feel like I'm being cheated of my walk, but I can't keep up with the people in carts in this heat without tiring myself to the point that my game will suffer.

However, it cannot get too hot to play, and that is what makes the heat tolerable to me.

I've gotten used to being the last to hit in a foursome. It actually feels strange to not hit last. And I don't care if 3 guys are watching my tee shot as long as they are not in my line of sight (ie, please stay behind me). Although one time recently my husband and I were walking and playing with 2 guys who were riding and they would always drive up the cart path part of the way since they didn't feel they were in any danger of being hit by me...always on the fairway, you know grin

I have to go along with the consensus here, that the guys normally go first. It's rare that they don't. I also must admit to preferring carts. The courses are way to big to walk in this weather.

I usually go last also. A lot of times I only golf with women though. I do agree, we almost always walk and not use the golf carts. That is what golf is to me, exercise, walking and enjoying the day.

I like playing with women because it makes my lack of distance off the driver less noticeable.

I like watching women swing the golf club, especially good ones. Guys are usually so intent on hitting the ball as hard and as far as they can. Women, as I have seen, are more focused on actually producing a good swing, making good contact, and placing the ball in the right spot of the fairway.

On a lot of golf courses, where you pretty much HAVE to ride a cart. you will get to the back tees FIRST, so it only makes sense to have the golfer/golfers, hitting from the back tees hit first. Then everyone can move up to the next tee box or what ever, and let those golfers hit. So, if a woman should be hitting from the forward tees, it means she would be hitting last. IF you ever watch the 3 Tour Challenge on TV, you will see that this is exactly how they do it. The PGA player hits first, then the Senior tour player hits, and the LPGA tour player hits last.
