Will Michelle Wie now go to the next level? - I can’t say that I’m a huge Michelle Wie fan.

She’s a gifted golfer and, even at 20 years old, has shown glimpses of the talent we’ve heard about for the last 10 years or more. So I do have t...

Does anyone know the difference between a Hook and a Draw?
Or the difference between a Slice and a Fade?

Best concise definitions for shot shapes:
Slice
A slice is a curving shot with a lot of sidespin which sends the ball left to right rather than straight. The clubface will be open several degrees in relation to the path.

Draw
This is a shot with minimal sidespin resulting in a slight right to left travel at the end of the ball's flight. The clubface is closed a few degress at impact with a straight club path. The slight sidespin means that as the ball slows at the end of its flight, the sidespin takes over and draws the ball from right to left. This is the opposite of a fade.

Hook
The opposite of a slice, with the clubface closed more than a few degrees relative to the path.

Push
This term is used for a ball whose flight path is straight, with very little sidespin, and the ball ends up to the right of the target.

Pull
Opposite of a push. The ball will end up to the left of the target.

Fade
Slight sidespin, causing a straight shot to travel left to right at the end of the ball's flight.

I would say that it is the beginning direction of the shot and also the amount of side spin. For example and ideally, the draw for a right handed player will start right and with minimal side spin begin to turn left. As opposed to a hook which will be hit with a closed club face starting possibly straight or left and have massive side spin as to cause the ball to continue left.

The fade/slice follows the same principles only in reverse as far as direction for a right handed golfer.

Do I win?

I don't know what the offical meaning is for these terms, but I have mine. To me a fade or draw, is a shot where the golfers controls the shot shape, be it right to left (draw) or left to right (Fade). A Hook or Slice is where the golfer has NO CONTROL of the balls flight, it just goes where IT wants too. If you curve the ball right to left ON PURPOSE, then it's a draw. If you curve the ball left to right ON PURPOSE, then it's a fade. If you meant to hit the ball straignt, then you hit either a hook or a slice.

There's also the amount of movement...a draw or fade don't move 50 yards off center...

Amiee; I can tell you have never watched the Jack Nicklaus video on how the hit a fade or draw. When Jack hits a draw, the ball starts out on a line a good 30 degrees to the right, and draws back. That's a lot more than a 50 yard draw.

I always see draws or fades as being softer movements, maybe I didn't describe it well...it's like a nice soft arc movement rather than a sharp "L" where it spins off laterally?

To me, Draw and Fade are controlled shots....hooks and slices are out of control.

A draw (if you're a right hander), is a controlled curve to the left,
(ball travels in a long right to left flight pattern) a fade is to the right.
A hook is an uncontrolled shot that quickly curves left, a slice is one
that quickly curves to the right (not to be confused with a shank).
