I'm a big fan of the Open Championship, love watching every minute that I can. Where does this major rank among anyone's favorite list?
It was pretty interesting today with the calm weather and low scores?
Did you like it?

MikeD...

Absolutely I love all the majors... But, the Open is really special showcasing the difference in the game between there
and here... It is even better when the weather plays a part.
Cold, windy and rain makes me want to watch it more...

Your "Latest Feature" column is some of the best golf writings that I read...To make this a part of our Forum is special...
Please keep up the great work...You have a wonderful gift. smile

Thanks selftaughtman,

I can't wait to get into my recliner early in the AM to see if the wind really is going to pick up and maybe a little rain, too.
I give professional golfers all the credit in the world because they're out there alone. If they don't play well, they don't get paid well.
But I sure do like it when the elements turn against them occasionally and make them REALLY work for the bucks!

obviously slightly biased, but I think it can be the best test of golf. Nothing beats watching the pros struggle with severe weather and major shot selection. I like the fact that there are so many ways to play the same shot.
I have played links before and when it is blowing I dont care what people say about any other course, a links course becomes pure evil (however on the other side when it is calm, they are the only course you can easily break 60 - well if you are a pro anyway!)
My personal choice regarding majors is the open, Masters, then not really bothered re US open or PGA as they come across over here as basically the same type of course (which is probably the reason why I love our open so much)

also love the fact that tiger looks as if he has missed the cut (and how many times can you write that!) shows he is human after all.

I don't think very much of the British Open. The way to fairways are layed out, a ball can land right in the middle of the fairway, and still end up in the tall rough. Another ball can land 2 feet from that first ball, and end up in perfect position. There can be a HUGH difference in where the ball ends up due to a difference of only a few feet of where it lands. This means LUCK can be more important than SKILL. I'm also not a big fan of greens that are so HARD that you can't land the ball on the green and have it hold. I like to see a great shot, where the ball lands inside of 5 feet of the cup be REWARDED with an easy putt for birdie. I watched the Open on Saturday and Sunday, and I can't remember how many times the announcer said that IF the ball had just landed a foot or two from where it did, it would have been a perfect shot, instead of having the ball end up off the green or in the rough.
It just seems to ME that LUCK comes into play a lot more at the OPEN than at any other event on tour. And while I know we can't take LUCK completerly out of the equation, I do like it to not play a MAJOR role in the outcome of the event, like it CAN at the Open.
