I seem to have become more sensitive to bug bites. I spray myself with "Off" before playing golf and still get bit and I itch like crazy. I've bought all the over the counter anti-itch creams and sprays, they don't help for more than a couple of minutes. What's your favorite home remedy for de-itchifying?
I've read about making a poultice with baking soda, using ice, using hot compresses...

you know, I know people who bugs just swarm too. I don't know what it is about me, but I don't seem to attract them (don't say it Don!) I mean they'll fly around but I rarely get lots of bites or even notice a bit. So I cant' say I have one...

Aimee, mosquitos can't resist you because you're sweet.

The key is to not get bit in the first place. Have you tried the new Off clip-ons? We camp a lot and we all use these. They are supposed to keep bugs 12 feet away from you. So far, so good.
Usually if I get bit, a hot shower and benadryl cream works to stop the itching. Then again, once you start to itch, you don't stop!

I'm in the same boat as you. The critters make me paranoid because when I get bit, I itch for weeks afterward. I bother the areas and end up with these ugly spots.

I smoke cigars on the course, so nothing comes near me, including my golf group. cool

Amen DocT...

Golf course is the best place in the world for cigar smoking....
Actually my whole group are cigar smokers. Even the player's that aren't will "light up" before the round is over. cry I'm usually
good from 3 to 5 per round (before, during and after).
What do you enjoy?cool

Funny you mention the cigar smoke, it's the one place I don't mind if someone lights up...because it'll keep the winged critters away!

Aimee you are my kind of woman...But we still try to be respectful of non-smokers when they have a serious issue with
cigar smoke. But it does help with the critters.
Also, cigar smokers look like they are having more fun. It also
is a "great prop".... wink

Aimee,
They don't partiularly like me either, so I don't have any personal favorite. This link has several inexpensive repellant ideas. When I was a girl scout, they recommended Avon Skin So Soft, and I notice that has made it into the list.

Avon Skin So Soft works pretty well, going back several years when that was first discovered we used to use it when sailing. I'll have to give it a shot for golf.

Yep, I also respect the non-smokers who don't like cigar smoke. I don't take my cigar with me when we're on the green. On the tee box, we use my smoke to gauge the wind direction.

As for what I like to smoke... that's always a tough question. I try to take a new cigar that I haven't tried before. Usually it's been aging in my humidor for at least a year or two. I like all the Fuente Hemmingway's, and have been trying to get my hands on a Hemmingway maduro with no luck. I get in about 3-4 cigars during the course (from size toro's to churchills). Another favorite for the course are Ghurka's. No wait, Padron. Or maybe Ashton, Partagas, or Montecristo, or.... hmm, this is more difficult than I thought. lol.

Skin So Soft works well. I used it when we used to vacation on Sanibel Island. There are these little biting flying bugs that drive you nuts at dawn and dusk. I also keep pseudophedrine with me. In case I do get bit, a dose of Sudafed keeps the inch and inflammation in check.

Aimee, I'm also one who swells up for about a week and can't stop itching. Sometimes I actually place a bandage over the mosquito bites to stop myself from itching them in my sleep, since that's when I do it the most. One of those rolls of bandage material for sores on the heel will do the trick.

Baking soda also works, but pasting it on frequently over the course of a week just isn't all that fun!

I also wear long pants and tops. A light weight cotton top can be fairly cool, and it saves you from the bugs.

I've used the Avon product as well. It seemed to do okay.

I hate mosquito bites but mosquitoes seem to love me. And they can find me even inside sometimes. frown I also try to wear long pants but sometimes it's just too hot.

I hate bugs and mosquitoes big time. I don't want them around me. I wear a lot of long-sleeved shirts and long pants. That's my main way of not being bitten. I'm used to this type of attire, and I prefer that to being bitten by the pesky pests!

Do you guys get bitten that often? The most I think I get is the annoying fly that keeps circling my head. But otherwise, I really don't get bothered by bugs on the course. Unfortunately I also don't have many birdies or eagles visiting me either.....

thepinkball, mosquitoes can find me anywhere too. I swear that if I lived at the top of a high building, I'd still get bitten. I sit in my office and get bitten!

Perhaps I'm just sweet. Standing water while outdoors doesn't help, either!
