Anyone here have a blade putter they'd be willing to part with for a decent price?

Jesh, what are you looking for? Specific brand or anything? I've got an old one someone gave me but I doubt it's any better than anything in the discount bin at any store.

Personally i like mallet putters.

Jesh, I'd have to think it would cost more to ship you one of my putters, then you could BUY one for at a local used club outlet. I can get a new putter for under $20 at most any golf shop if I'm not looking for a top name brand putter. I paid $10 for a Wilson brass blade putter a few years ago.

Eh, I think I found one, I got an offer for a $75 tour White Hot. I doubt I could beat that.

While I happen to really like the Odessay Sabertooth putter, there is no way of knowing if that White Hot putter will make you a better putter of the ball. Not until you try it out on the practice green for a few hours. Five minutes will tell you NOTHING. I've read lots of reposts on how a new putter improved a golfer game, but ONLY for a day or two. Then their old problems come back to haunt them, and the search for another new putter begins. Bottom line is YOU need to learn how to putt, and then just about any decent putter will work pretty well. If you can't make a good repeatable stroke, and best putter in the world will not help.

Thing is, I can putt better with my dads old no name blade. But I don't like it because the ball doesn't come off feeling good. It rolls well, but the club is old, the milling has faded, so basically, I'm hitting off of a face with no grooves or insert.

My cousin has the sabertooth, and I love the insert, that's another reason I want it. The insert feels so good.

The Sabertooth is too strange looking for my liking. I like my putter for confidence. Most of which I get from the looks.

Jesh, I thought it was strange, too. I looked at that putter for probably a year and tried all kinds of other styles...but it really worked best for me. So I got over the looks.
The Odyssey White Hot insert is really nice, so go for a head style that gives you confidence and get that insert. It's great.

I've tested lots of putters and I admit, the sabertooth looks odd, but it does work. it's a very nice putter...forget looks, go with what works! People may make fun of it, but it may be you laughing all the way to the lowest score...

Jesh, I agree with you on the looks of the Sabertooth, But like Aimee and Scott just mentioned, It WORKS. I've demoed it twice in the past month at Golfsmith. First day I sunk 10 of 20 putts from 30 feet. Second day I sunk 4 of seven putts . At one point the first day I made 5 in a row. NOT TOO BAD FOR A WEIRD LOOKING PUTTER. I was using the 33" model, and that's the putter I'd buy if I was going to buy a OEM putter.

When Bill was here a few years ago, we went to Golfsmith and Bill purchased a Scotty Cameron Detour putter. He told me to try it, so I did. The Detour looked TERRIBLE TO MY EYE. But I tried it anyway. I hit a few from 24 feet to get a feel for it, then ended up sinking 8 in a row with it. Sunk 11 in total with that terrible looking putter.

Ask yourself this question. What do you look at when you putt? the ball? or the putter head? I look at the ball, so the looks of the putter doesn't really matter that much. Maybe that's what you need to try. LOOK at the ball, and forget about the putter.

Although you need to feel confident about the putter you use (and confidence first comes from the "look" of the putter), you'll have the most confidence when you have a putter that helps you sink putts! Whatever you buy, make sure you spend time trying it out in the store first...and on a couple of different days. If you keep getting the best results with one certain putter, it will be obvious what you should buy.

Jesh,

I am not sure if you got your putter yet. I just read your post and I know from your other posts you are fairly new to the game. I have a Ping Answer G5i blade putter that is in very good shape. I do not have the head cover anymore. I originally bought it for my son and he has switched putters a few times since then. It is a very good blade putter and I think I paid about 125 dollars for it back when. If you want it I will give you a deal 15.00 plus whatever shipping is. If you are interested I will check for you and let you know what that would be.

The have always used blade putters but from what I have been told mallet putters are better and the one you were considering (Odyssey white hot putter?)is one of the best for a person learning the game. I have a mallet putter I can through in the box if you want also. It is a tour edge back draft and is also a good learning putter and has alignment marks. Let me know if you are interested.

Tony

Self,
Thanks for the props but just like most golfers I have gone through my share of equipment trying to find my swing before I realized it was me not the equipment.

It is good to see you back on the site. Did you see the bank shot hole in one by Leif Olson in the RBC Canadian Open? http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/blog/devil_ball_golf/post/Bank-shot-The-most-amazing-hole-in-one-you-ll-e?urn=golf,178862
If you did not watch Saturday this is a link to the shot where he hit his ball off another ball to hole out and win a new BMW.

I saw the replay of his shot, and it was fun to watch. I wonder if he had to buy lunch or something for the guy who's ball it was that helped him win the car. The other guys ball was the only reason he made the hole-in-one, and won the car.

Yea I enjoyed watching that one. Not that it was a great shot or anything just funny as hell. The girl handing over the keys looked like she was a little upset. I would guess he would owe quite a few people drinks aftrer that one. In fact there must have been a lot of drinking going on after 8 hole outs.

I heard there were a lot of hole-in -ones at the event, but I didn't know it got up to 8. That's got to be a record for one tourniment.

When I lookded it up tour officials are saying it is an all time record but the record could only be verified back to 1971.
The thinking is that records kept prior to then are not complete. So it can not be verified that prior to 1971 that a tournament did not give up more than 8. I was only able to vierify 7 of the aces. But according to Golf Channel the other day there were 8. Even if it was 7 it was still an all time record. Wow

Do you know if they were all on the same Par 3 or not? Not that it really matters, that's a lot of good shots in one week.

Only four were made on the fifteenth hole so those four each won a fifty thousand dollar BMW Arjun Atwal, Briny Baird, Leif Olson, and Casey Wittenberg. The others made aces on holes 4,7, and 12 but the only hole that had a prize was the 15th. All four of the car winners made the ace in round 2. I know they have hole in one insurance for amateur competition but I think this was on BMW's dime. I think with the new hole in one insurance company there will be more big prizes offered in amateur tournaments. I looked an example of cost for the insurance. This form of insurance allows you to offer a grand prize. If someone does win the grand prize you offer, US Hole in One pays out on your behalf. There is a cost for the insurance but is a lot less.
How Much?
To obtain an accurate quote for the insurance, you do need to contact the company directly but this is an example of the fee structure.
• $7500 Home Entertainment System as grand prize: for 100 players, costs $204.
• For a $20,000 Smart Car as grand prize: with 72 players, costs $334.
• For a $50,000 cash grand prize: with 144 players, costs $1,256.
How can they afford it?

How can they afford it? It's pretty simple really. Like any form of insurance, they don't figuure on paying out very much, and they charge enough to cover the costs when they do. Look at home insurance. You can insure a $200,000 home for less than $1,500 a year. As long as your house doesnt burn down or something, the insurance company makes money year after year.
