Will Michelle Wie now go to the next level? - I can’t say that I’m a huge Michelle Wie fan.

She’s a gifted golfer and, even at 20 years old, has shown glimpses of the talent we’ve heard about for the last 10 years or more. So I do have t...

Is it essentially a lesson? I play for my high school team and we have summer workouts 3 days a week, 2 days of golf, and one day of actual work outs. But anyway, is what my coach tells me the same stuff I'd be told if I got a lesson?

Well, depends on the qualification of your coach. Might try to get some background on his golf pedigree. If he's just the chemistry teacher filling in, or if the team has never been real competitive, you might want to look for a PGA qualified instructor as well.

Alright. I'm pretty sure her qualifications aren't too high. Her husband's a pro, technically, but I don't think his short games very good. He's a long driver, in the Remax championships. I might look for a PGA qualified one as well.

Jesh, my husband and I played with a guy who was a high school golf coach and he wasn't a great golfer. I think if you want to get better you'll get more out of a PGA professional instructor. Be prepared for your coach to potentially feel "threatened", but just be respectful and don't rub her nose in it.

I won't. I probably won't get one until next spring, and I doubt she'll feel threatened. It actually happens a lot with athletes that go to my school, like I know a lot of my friends who are football players go to extra local "clinic" type things, I doubt she'll care as long as I'm improving and helping the team.

I agree with the others. I've seen some pretty poor high school coachs at one of the practice areas I use. Most of them are not trained at being an instructor at all. Just someone doing a job no one else wants to do.

Jesh, personnaly, I wouldn't wait till next spring. There's lots of time between now and then to really make improvements on your golf game. Just a thought.

Absolutely. I don't know where you live, but here in NJ there are ranges that are heated in each stall(you get really toasty, it works well) and there are some indoor teaching facilities where you hit into a net and they can tape you. They definitely promote winter golf lessons to keep your swing in tune.

Oh yes, let's face it, most of the pro's at golf course don't make tons of $$, not the ones I know..so they live by lessons and they'll do them all year, in doors if they need to. You can actually do a lot of work in doors on fundamentals with a mirror or video camera. So don't wait.

Sure, you can take lessons all year round if you want to. Depending on where you live, the weather might be a bit nippy in winter, but you can still take lessons. And there is always the indoor lessons if it gets too cold outdoors.

I played high school golf for four years. I graduated last year. Our coaches were not pro's and never claimed to be. They did it because they love the game and I think because they enjoyed helping us. Not because no one else wanted to do it. They put a lot of time and effort and a lot of their own money into our team. I owe them a lot. Maybe all HS teams are the same but our coaches videoed our swings and we all watched the videos some of the funniest stuff you ever saw. It was a great experience for me. If you are on a team listen to your coach and respect what they are doing.
