the practice in the garden with the lob wedge is showing signs that I am moving in the right direction.
just looking forward to next week now and the 99 holes in 5 days (including St Mellions - 2nd hardest course in the UK)

Played today. Played from the tips are our championship course, where Lee Trevino won the 1974 PGA Championship.

So played well, even though I may not have scored great. hit a lot of good shots. Par'd 6 on the front 9, with 3 bogeys. back 9 again hit some solid shots and a few bad ones....shot 8 over on the back though, just sort of missing one shot a hole. Had 2 par's and one double. Shot 11 over, 81 on a Par 70. But it was played on greens that had just been plugged a few days ago.

Played 3 times over the holiday weekend, actually scored pretty consistently.
Round #1 was at Mercer Oaks West, played with my husband's business partner and the 4th was a guy that turned out to be close friends with my husband's cousin. Small world. Shot 90 with 5 pars, 4 GIR, 1 sandie.
Round #2 was the longest (for me off the red tees) of our county courses, Mountainview, which is an older course with teeny greens. Which happened to be rock hard (somebody has decided to ration water I guess) so there was a fair amount of running shots up to the green to prevent hitting the green in the center only to have the ball run off...shot 91, 5 pars, 5 GIR. I've never broken 90 at this course, it was do-able that day, just missed a couple of putts.
Round #3 was at the links style course, Mercer Oaks East. I had hooked up with a couple of the women that I play with, we all had tee times so we sent the boys out in one foursome and us all in one foursome. One of the women is a pretty long hitter, she played off the white tees and shot in the low/mid 80's. I shot 90 with 5 pars, 5 GIR, 1 birdie (par 4, hit my second shot into the fringe of the green and putted it in). Hit driver well all day, of course hit duck hook into the woods on 18th hole, but even with drop/penalty I managed a bogie due to a clutch 1-putt, so I was pretty happy at the end.
Courses all starting aeration schedules so next couple of weeks a bit bumpy...

I've played twice since my last post, both times with my dad. Sunday, I shot 99 at a pretty tough course, 51 on the front and 48 on the back. Strange thing is when we had a match there earlier this year I scored 47 on the front.

Then today, I went to pick up my homecoming attire, and on the way home we stopped at a golf store, and I saw the Nike CCI Forged, and a Scotty Cameron putter, the putter was so crazy feeling coming of the face. $300 for a putter though shocked maybe someday. Although, I might get the Nike CCI Forged irons with my Christmas money this year.

Anyway, on the way home, we stopped at a local Par 35 course, and I shot 42. But always one to out do me, my dad shot a 40. Oh well, I've still only beaten him 1 time in my life.

Either way, I hope he scores well in his tournament coming up.

I took the wife out to play 9 holes yesterday at a local exec course. Didn't play that well, but better than I have lately, which is an improvement at least. They are having a 2 for 1 deal on green fees, so only paid $13 for the two of us for 9 holes. Hard to beat that price, even if it is an exec course. Really nice course, and it's in great shape right now. Greens are soft, with lots of contours to deal with, but that's fine with me. I actually hit the best approach shot I've hit in well over a year. I pulled my tee shot left into the rough, and had a big pine tree right between the ball and the flag. I was 137 yards out, and didn't know if I could hit my PW OVER THE TREE, or not, but gave it a go. Got over the tree with about 2 feet to spare, and landed the ball about 4 feet past the cup, and almost hit the flag stick it was so straight. Nothing like a 4 footer for birdie. Sure better than what I've had the last year or so.

We had rain on Saturday, so we played our links-style course on Sunday, figuring it would be less muddy. When we got to the starter (a bit early for our tee time) we saw another couple and he asked if we wanted to join them since the other 2-some apparently didn't show up. We passed, since I wanted to have a few minutes to stretch and putt. Got paired up with 2 singles, it was one of the few times we played with a jerk. One guy was nice and polite, the other was a total jerk. He had a staff bag with his name stitched on it. He was the only one on a cart and he would practically run me over on the cart path to drive up to my tee box...to sit and wait while I walked there and hit. He barked at me for standing 20 feet behind him when he was putting (not asking politely to move, saying "you have to move, you're in the way") - dude, if you see me back there when you are putting you're looking in the wrong direction.
Anyhow, it was a weird round. Score saved by the short game. I had only 27 putts, with 2 chip ins. 1 GIR, 4 pars. Wound up with 93, definitely missed a few shots due to playing in the mud.

Aimee; Guys like that is one good reason I don't carry my 45 with me on the course. I'b be tempted to use it one that jerk.

Yeah, I'd be tempted to tell him to play through and go on ahead....I would not want to play with someone like that.

I had 3 matches today...sort of. I played in a foursome, but we weren't all playing me, even though I was playing them. It was 3 matches for my school, played like this: WM vs. S, WM vs. J, and WM vs. G and I had one of each in my grouping. I ended up shooting 44, I had 3 matches towards my varsity letter, even though I only played one. Either way, I'll take it.

Scott, he would have been miserable with the group in front of us. It was an older husband/wife and we could see them trudging. The other rude thing he did (because he got really mad when he lost a ball) once off the tee he must have torqued one OOB, so he literally yelled at me and my husband (we were standing on the cart path near the tee box) "STOP!!! DON'T MOVE!!! I'M HITTING ANOTHER". He was harrumphing and grumbling the whole round. A really unpleasant guy. At one point he walked off the green and my husband realized he left his wedge off to the side. For a minute we contemplated not picking it up for him.

Being that RUDE, I think I might have just left the wedge behind to get somewhat even with the guy. Maybe you could have told him 2 holes later about the wedge, and he would have gone back to get it, and you would have been rid of him.

And I have to tell you. IF he had yelled at me and my wife, I WOULD have told him to get lost and not come back. If he had yelled at me, I would have just told him to stick it, but I don't put up with anyone yelling at my wife, or any other woman for that matter. The world doesn't need that kind of jerk.

Snuck out for a round this afternoon. Played a course which is sort of out in the country (lots of farms) and near Ft.Dix.
www.hanovergc.com
It's one we always play, swear we aren't coming back, then try again in 2 years. It's a decent layout, but never in good condition. The grass on the fairways was really sparse, and with all of the rain we've had there is no excuse this year. The greens were OK, they had aerated about 2 weeks ago so the holes had healed, but there was still some sand residue on some so they were a bit slow in parts.
Very light play, they didn't even take a tee time, just told us to come out...and no starter. So there was a threesome, a single, twosome, twosome...we hooked up with the single in front of us on the 8th hole. He was a beginner but a nice enough guy, he probably wanted to play by himself so he wouldn't be embarassed. He had only started playing this summer, so he was doing remarkably well. With some lessons we told him he'd be a good player, his swing was really not bad and he putted well.
So, got off to a good start, shot 41 on the front (4 pars), but got thrown off my game on the back with having to wait A LOT between shots, lost my focus and shot 48. 89 overall is OK, it's an easy course (slope only 115 from red) and I should have held it together better on the back and gone lower.
Shot of the round was a par 4 where I pinned my 3rd shot onto the island green 3 feet from the pin with 7i and one putt for par.

Played 9 holes the other day, twice. Once shot 38, the other was a 9 hole 2 2-man captains choice Match play match, which we won in overtime, sudden death on the putting green. I put a 60 ft putt within 3.5 ft to seal the victory.

but on the 38, I hit the ball well, new irons and all. Greens still bumpy from the plugging but getting better. 6 GIRs, 6 Pars, 3 Bogies, and 18 putts. Hard to read the bounces on those greens. Best shot...???....1st swing with the 4I from 210 yard to a bunkered par 3 with water on the left. GIR and Par thankfully.

lots of charity tournaments coming up in the next few weeks and my annual Myrtle Beach golf trip. Looking forward to it.

Just come back from a 5 day trek to Devon for 99 holes of golf. Started off ok ish, followed by a major collapse in the middle (scoring only 17 points in 18 holes!). Then it all came good in the last 2 rounds (40 and 45 respectively) The last game was a gross 84 and have never hit the ball better or sweeter.
The collapse though came at St Mellion (which is going to be the new home of the english open) lovely course - shame about the idiot playing it grin most holes were lovely and well worth the £60 to play it
The only problem now is I am walking like a cripple and feel like I have put about 2 stone in weight on due to the amount of food and beer consumed in that time

Played 3 days this weekend. All at the same course as it was part of a weekend outing with the L.O.O.M. (Moose) lodge that I belong.

Broke 100 on Friday with a 99(50,49), shot +7 on Saturday as part of a 2man scramble and then shot a 103(55,48) on Sunday. I won $16 on Friday for a closet to the pin and then didn't do jack squat the rest of the time. Had some real nice drives and was putting fairly well, short irons still need the work.

Whole weekend was a blast especially since I enjoyed it with my Dad. Had a lot of fun with the other guys that I am just getting to know.

Maybe Kev didn't want people to know he reviewed it for some reason....

Well played 9 holes today in this corporate golf league we're in. You play 2 2-man captains choice match-play matches. Anyway we made the playoffs and last week won in sudden death putt-off. This week, my team won it's match but the our other team lost, so again we go to playoffs. This time it's playing a full hole, which we tie, and then a chip-off from behind the green. I didn't hit a good chip but it was good enough to beat the other players shots so we won. On to the finals next week.

I played well, driving the ball nicely. Did hit a 225 yard 5W to setup an eagle putt on a Par 5. Didnt make it but we birdied. Actually that was our 3rd birdie in a row. Anyway, it's fun.

playing in a charity event this weekend and then heading to the beach for my annual golf pilgrimage. So come next week I'll have several new course reviews to write.

A friend came over from Arizona, and we played 18 at Victoria GC in Carson, CA. Shot a 104 (+18 front, +14 back). Thought it was a good score for me since I haven't played since mid July, and this being my 3rd round this year. Lots of problems with my driver. Started the day with slices, progressed to fades, then straight (for a couple of holes), then pulls by the end. On one hole, I ended up playing on 3 different fairways. Pulled my tee shot into the left parallel fairway, 2nd shot over my fairway and into the right parallel fairway, 3rd stroke got back to MY fairway and 4th shot on the green. Finished the hole with a 2-putt double bogey. I joked around and said at least I'm getting more than my money's worth! crazy

DocT. I hope you din't count that a hitting the Fairway 3 times during your round. It has to be YOUR fairway to count you know. Just kidding you a bit, and I've done the wrong fairway thing a time or two myself. Even saw Tiger do it a few times, and he's a bit better than you and me I think. ON the bright side, you started out with a slice, cut it down to a fade, then got it straightened out, so that GOOD. Next time quit before the hooks show up and you'll be fine.

We had played on Sunday, it was a gorgeous day, low/mid 70's and sunny. Before the leaves start to drop, this is the best time of year to play. Kind of an up and down round, 2 GIR's, 4 pars, lots of bogeys. Not a great putting day, 33 putts. Wound up shooting 90. I was kind of mad at myself for messing up the prior hole so when I got to #18, which is a long par 5, I swung as hard as I could off the tee and clocked my drive 193 (measured with SkyCaddie, of course). My ball came to rest in a bit of a gully in the middle of the fairway, so with roll it might've gone 200. I'll have to see this weekend if I can swing like that on more holes or if is just too much effort to sustain and keep control.

Played on Saturday, bit breezy and overcast. First round I've had to play in long sleeves (of course my husband the polar bear was still in short sleeves and shorts...). A bogey-full round once again, shot 92 with 33 putts. Greens still kind of hard and sandy from aeration a couple of weeks ago, but getting better. Monday they aerate the fairways so that's going to be a mess.
Favorite shot was on hole #18, par 5...hit 2nd shot right into the rough, hit 7 iron onto the elevated green, and watched it roll inches from the hole. Of course I missed the 4 foot curling putt...would have been a good par.

Played 9 holes sat - 1st time this year and only 2nd time out since one round in all of last year. Shot 4 over; double on first hole par 4 dogleg left 227yds and double on last hole, par 4, 262yds straight with hole tucked left behind trees. All pars 2 thru 8. Two good chips from fringe: one stoped one ball revolution from going in, other rimmed out. Two good tee shots with 4 wood about 2oo yds each, holes 3 & 4. Played alone and for some reason was very consious of groups ahead and behind me. Noticed some second shots were "tenative" after such a long spell without playing but was able to put pretty well to at least save par. Chipped in greenside bunker on last hole but made it out but not quite to the green. All in all a good round.

Just got back from a pheasant hunting and golfing trip in Pierre, S.D.
Played golf Friday AM and, not having played in almost two years, hit the ball much better than atticipated. The golf course is called Sutton Bay and was designed by Graham Marsh. It's not a real easy track.
Here's a virtual tour www.roundscapes.com/suttonBay/
After I saw Don in Denver, came home, practiced putting and hitting balls for three weeks in hope of, at least, playing a decent game. Played with Gary, a friend who used to be VP of Ping. He says he's a 4 hdcp. but he's actually a 2. Anyway, I had two bogies and three birds, which, for me, was phenomenal.
Saturday and Sunday we went pheasant hunting.
www.signaturelodge.com
It was a great weekend.
Bill

Bill, sounds like a nice kickoff to Fall.
Hope you made out as well with the pheasant hunting as the other kind of "birdie" hunting (couldn't resist).
