FYI, I was at my local Golf Galaxy today and checked out their clearance sale, 50% off Clearance clubs. I was able to get a lady's 4hyrbid and a 3W for $11 total. Not bad for trying to build a set of clubs for my lady-friend. They also had the TaylorMade R7 Draw driver in the HT (high trajectory?) and 10.5 degree lofts...net price was $60. That's pretty good for a new driver that likely cost about $250+ a couple years ago.

So if you have a GG nearby, might be worth a look at their clearance gear. They also had men's stuff too but nothing I really wanted.

The clearance stuff was up to 75% for a while but now they took it down because they had "bad numbers." Hopefully they will bring it back.

I got my wife 3 Walter Hagen fairway woods that she loves for 15each. Regular 129.99, Fujikara shafts and Winn grips that she loves. Was going to have her old woods regripped but it was going to cost almost as much. LOL.

clearance sale is up to 90% but the stuff is pretty scarce. I was able to get a Callaway fusion 5w with Aldila NVS 55 shaft for 6dollars (had a $10 advantage club certificate)

They had a bunch of womens shoes 90% off. Most were under $10bux. None were more than $30.

Same one, Robinson. They cashier said a bunch of the clothing is going on clearance this weekend.

They only had lefty clubs left in the clearance section. Couple Maxfli's, slazangers, and 2 callaway fusion 5w's left.

They did have 2 pairs of mens shoes but they were size 9.5 I believe. They were they $300 foot joys marked down to 30bux.

I think I'll head to my GG today and see what they have here. heck at 90% you could almost make money buying it and selling it on eBay...

Not at mine. Stopped by today. had some club accessories 90% off but nothing I really needed. Some iron clubheads for <$3 but again, not something I needed. Other deals not quite as good but I will say, the store near me has reorganized and has less stuff (slightly, not drastically) than they did before. Just some less clubs and well, less women's gear club-wise.

Anyway, still fun to window shop.

I find it interesting I didn't get an email from them about any sale, as I'm a member of their club, and I get all kinds of emails from them, but nothing about this 90 % off sale.

I haven't heard of anyone getting any emails about the clearance stuff.

Its kinda of just drop by and see what they got. I think because the stuff on clearance differs from store to store it would be hard to send out an email.

From what I've heard, it's a short term thing they do when they have excess inventory. So it's a last minute decision, not a planned campaign, and they cut it off as soon as they sell a certain amount.

Needless to say, I didn't go. I went and hit two large buckets of range balls instead and then took a test drive of a new car with the wife. I can't believe the price of new cars, or how bad the city mileage is. 16 MPG in the city is not what I call good mileage for a small car. I got better mileage than that 40 years ago with a full size car. Is it any wodner the big 3 are all having troubles.

Don, what did you test drive? A corvette? I've not seen a small car, other than SUVs with that bad a city mileage in a while...wow.

Lynn has been seeing a lot of Mustages lately on the road, she had never driven one, so she wanted to test drive one. We looked at 3 cars, two 2010's, one V8 and one 6. V8 got 16 MPG city, 6 cylinder got a big fat 17 MPG. Third was a 2006 V8 with only 12,000 miles on its, which is the one Lynn test drove. Extremely loud car. Could hardly hear her talking when she had her foot on the gas even just a little. Hate to think how loud it would be if you floored it. For some reason, Ford seems to think a small car like the Mustage needs a 330 HP engine. My 1970 Mach 1 didn't have anywhere near that much power, and it was plenty fast, even when I was a lot younger. And I don't remember the exact mileage, but I don't think it was as low as the new ones. Lynn's current car, a 2000 Toyota Solara has a V6, has 200 HP, is a lot bigger car, and it's got plenty of power, and she gets around 22-23 MPG back and forth to work. MOstly city driving. So I can't see buying a new smaller car that only gets 16 MPG.

Now that I re-think things, I maight be wrong about the 16 city. Might have been 18 city, as I do know it was 24 Highway. Even is if is 18 city for V8 and 19 for the 6 cylinger, that's still pretty bad. Expecielly when we could be seeing $4 a gallon gas again any time. And that is what the sticker has on it, and we all know most cars don't get what the sticker says it might. Most cars get a mile or two less, so 16 is realistic. And to really make things bad, there was just enough room to get ONE bad of clubs in the trunk, not two like we can get in the Solara with room to spare.

Well yeah, but the mustang still fits into that 'muscle' car genre where power is more important than MPG. That, the Vette, the Dodge Challenger/Charger, and the new Camaro, all great cars but not the economical pick. A friend of mine has a new Camaro on order, should hopefully arrive in Oct, V8, 500+ HP, still gets like 26 MPG highway.

I double checked, and I was correct the first time on the mileage, it was 16 MPG in the city. Granted it's in the muscle car catagory, but I'd think they would make some of them with smaler more effectent engines. Tell your friend GOOD LUCK on getting 26 MPG on the highway with that 500+ HP Camaro. I doubt he'll even get 20 with that new toy.

Yeah, I don't think he cares about the gas mileage..he wants it for the muscle car...

Which model? Out of the 2010's the top model (SS 2SS) only makes 426hp and is rated for 16/24. Which is pretty decent all things considered.
I am not a big fan of the "new" muscle cars. Probably because I'm not a fan of the old muscle cars.

IF the Mustage did get 24 MPG highway, I'd be a bit surprised, as most new cars don't get as good a mileage as the sticker says they do. At least that's what most of the articles in the car magazine will tell us. And I for ONE, don't care what the estimated HIGHWAY mileage is supposed to be. I don't do a lot of highway driving, so I go mostly by the city mileage. If I drove 20 or 30 miles each way on the highway every day, than I'd care, but as it is, I just don't care about highway mileage. And if you listen to all the new car ads, highway mileage is what they ALL brag about. WHO CARES??? I wonder what percentage of drivers drive most of their miles on the highways? If you live in one of the major cities, you sure don't. Last I noticed, more that half of the population now lives in a big city. So how much does highway mileage really matter?

Not that this have anything to do with a sale at Golf Galaxy.

Well, Don, those of us who work full time in outside sales drive 400-500 miles per week. Most of that, over 75%, is on the highway (interstates, NJ Turnpike, Garden State Parkway) for me. So don't paint all drivers with the same brush. My average mileage skews much closer to the highway rating, and I drive a Toyota RAV4. Part of the reason I chose it was specifically the mileage rating being high for an SUV.

i do a lot of highway driving. Once I get out of my neighborhood the highway is about 2 miles away. then it's straight to work which is just off the highway. but when I've bought a used car before I'd usually ask the sales person to call the owner and find out if the miles were highway or city. not that they have to tell the truth or that it rally matters I guess but I still like to know.

Consider how few people really track their mileage...since I drive so much (and buy so much gas) I kind of spot check every once in a while. Check number of gallons purchased over a week or two, number of miles driven...I have to honestly say most of the reason I check it all is to calculate how much gas I'll need to get home and buy just enough...
