Do You look for Your opponent's ball in match play?

Is it spirit of the game to help him find his ball,
or is it part of the game to watch him search and hope for penalty strokes?

You should always help your opponent look for their ball. When you find it and you see it's a Titleist 3, you yell over to your opponent and ask, "are you playing a Nike 2?" and they say, "no, it's a Titleist 3." You then put it in your pocket and keep on looking till the 5 minutes have expired. shocked

I aways help, it's only right if I expect them to help me on the next hole.

Me too. I'll help look. If I hit one into something and had to look, I'd appreciate the help looking so I give it too.

Now the bigger question is how long a putt you concede? I usually concede early putts of a few feet because a) I doubt they'll miss it and b) the less putts they take the more likely they'll be to miss longer ones from simple lack of putting. When I concede them I usually pick it up and toss it back to them so they are less likely to put it back down and putt it afterwards for practice. Me? I always putt even when concede (unless it's a tap in) so I do have information on the green speed, etc.

In our current league, 2 2-man teams, I concede a lot of putts mainly because 2 people aren't likely to miss short putts. Does happen but not so likely.

Scott, I guess you didn't read about a guy on tour 3-putting from ONE INCH. It was by a rather well known top golfer in fact. Not positive, but I believe it was a guy named Tom Watson. Or it could have been Hale Irvin?

well I know it Does happen... but we don't play on tour conditioned greens like they do.

Speaking of that, have you ever played a course that was hosting a PGA or LPGA or SPGA event either just before or just after? I played Rock Bark, which hosts the Greater Hickory Open on the SPGA tour. I played it about a week before the pro's did. I have NEVER in my life putted on greens that fast. NEVER. a gentle tap would run 10-15 ft. WOW.
