OK, I been searching for fairway woods for quite awhile.
I've tried several brands (Titleist, Callaway, Cleveland, Taylormade) and several configurations (three wood/five wood
or three wood/ hybrid). So far I cannot find a configuration I really like. My problem is I hook them all. Maybe I'm over swinging or maybe they are too light. Also, I use regular graphite shafts in my driver (Callaway FT-5) and irons (Wilson Staff Ci6). Maybe I should try stiffer shafts. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I don't think you will find ANY woods that will cure your hooks. That takes practice and maybe a lesson or two. What I will recommend is that you try a ProLaunch Blue FW fairway wood shaft in a 5 wood. The FW shaft is 85 grams, and designed just for fairway woods, and it works great in my experience. I've got 4 of them now, one in each of my 4 woods. Best shaft I've ever used in a fairway wood. Check with Golfsmith and see if they have any more left in stock. They had them on sale for 1/2 off, which meant they were selling for around $30.

Just wondering, what is your ball position when using any of the fairway woods?

My ball position is just off the left heel. Just a little farther back than with the driver. My issue is I don't normally hook my driver nor do I hook my three iron. Obviously, something is different. However, it may not be the clubs.

Are you talking about when you hit your woods, off a tee, or off the deck? I hit the ball of a tee with the ball at my left heel, but play the ball in the middle of my stance when hitting off the deck. You might try this and see if it solves your problem. As for your hooking only your woods, it sounds like you just may be OVERSWINGING, as you mentioned. I know that when I try to hit the ball HARDER, I tend to hit a big nasty duck hook. Once I learned to not swing harder, but EASIER, the hook went away completely. You might also try a weaker grip with your woods, and see if that solves the problem. Could this be part of your problem? Too strong a grip with your woods?

HoganMan,

Yeah it's likely not the club. You may can find a club that lessons the hook, like getting a neutral bias face like the Callaway Diablo's can be bought with, which will help offset the hook some compared to a clubface that's closed to begin with. So that's something you can look at. And I tend to hit my FW's from the ball being more middle of my stance unless it's off a tee, but moving it forward wouldn't cause a hook just by itself.

Is your grip strong, neutral or weak when you setup? Maybe an easy fix is to have a more weakened grip. The other thing I'd look at is a) your weight shift - do you stay on your right side too long, and b) are you actually turning your shoulders/upper body towards the target on the downswing too early, like a baseball swing, which would tend to have you hitting more of a pull hook than just a hook.

Thanks Don and srushing,
I think you both are correct (that's why I love these forums).
My hook is more of a pull hook, and it's probably caused by over swinging. I did find a three wood with an open face and that will
help too. Hope you both play well this weekend.
Thanks Again,

TM 200 series are excellent woods with great reviews. They are hard to find. I find the regular flex shafts are very consistent.

FWIW !!!

WELCOME to the site mac.

Not going to be playing any golf around here this weekend, as we got 4 inches of snow this week, and it's too wet out there for playing. But I will try to get out to the practice range with the wife for a few hours. Just put together a new FACE BALANCED putter I want to try out. The prototype worked out so well, I built a new one that needs testing. Feels real good, and I'm sure it will be even better than the prototype I was using for the past month.

Hoganman, when you are swinging the 3W, stay relaxed (don't overswing), keep your shoulders level/stay in balance, and focus on swinging "down the line" to help prevent the hook.
For what it's worth, most instructors feel that is the hardest club to hit, so it does take some practice.
