Will Michelle Wie now go to the next level? - I can’t say that I’m a huge Michelle Wie fan.

She’s a gifted golfer and, even at 20 years old, has shown glimpses of the talent we’ve heard about for the last 10 years or more. So I do have t...

Since the off-season is upon, it is important to think about fitness. Fitness should always be apart of our golf routines and daily lives but now is a great time to start working on a new program. Please give some ideas and suggestions on what you do for your workout programs. Don't forget a program should have a good balance between strength, cardio, balance, and flexibility.

I'm actually going to do wone of these golf fitness assessments here in a couple weeks. But I will admit I usually don't do enough stretching before or after a work out. That's something I'm going to try and change.

Something I recommend for every golfer to have in his/her home is an exercise ball, resistance bands (two to three different resistance strengths), and a yoga mat. With these three pieces of equipment you can get in a great basic fitness program. The exercise ball is great to get in some core and balance workouts. The resistance bands are great for some strength exercises and help with stretching. Finally, a yoga mat to help with stretching, core work, and flexbility.

Welcome to the discussions...since you are an exercise physiologist I'm sure you have a lot to add to this topic!
There is the Titleist Performance Institute which is all about evaluating fitness of golfers and suggesting golf-specific exercises.
I go to the gym all year round, try to go every other day, so I only spend 45 minutes-an hour each time. Generally do 1/2 the time for cardio, the other half is split between stretching and weights. I think we had a discussion about this last year, too.
Most people don't spend enough time stretching, and also don't realize that you really need to warm up before stretching in order to maximize the benefit. Stretching helps prevent injuries.

I love to workout and anything that can help my golf game, I am all for it. The last month or two I have hit a rut in my workouts. I felt like I did the same thing all the time and was seeing no results. However, during the last two weeks I started adding in what is called CrossFit workouts, and I am really enjoying it. It involves curcuits, powerful movements, moving a lot of weight very quickly, and is very function. I think this is a great workout for golfers. It has helped a lot strengthing my lower back and core especially since you a moving in a wide range of motions and several different planes. Plus it is a great challenge. If you like to workout this is great program that is different, fun, and highly intense.
