Sounds like a nice trip Bill.

I just got back a 3 day golf trip to Myrtle Beach. Had a great time, great weather and played some great course. Even played some great golf. Didn't shoot too well the first day at Sea Trial's Maple's course, shot 87, but I was battling a fever that I like to think had something to do with it. Bounced back the next day at Arnie's course called River's Edge. VEry nice course. Shot 79, had an eagle, a birdie and a lot of Pars. Today played Glen Dornoch, another really nice course, shot 40/45 for an 85. Should have been a lot lower than 45 on the back but the speed of the greens changed as the course dried out from the cool morning dew, and I had at least 3 3-putts on holes I had GIR's in. So all and all, I'm pleased since the GIRs meant I was striking the ball well. Had one birdie and some pars and just lots of bogeys.

So now it's back home and back to work.

Played today out our links style course Mercer Oaks East. Kind of strange looking since they cut all the tall grass/brush in the rough since it dried out and creates a fire hazard over the winter. The course was in great shape but unfortunately our round took 5 hours due to a slow group in front of us, and not a ranger to be seen the whole time. Shot 91, 5 pars, 2 GIR, 31 putts. I struck my irons well, which has been something I've been working on. Couple of blow up holes, about 4 putts that I literally missed by 1-2"...could have been a better score but I'm OK with it. Nice day, low 70's and sunny, can't complain.

Walked 9 holes yesterday at my home course, first time I've played in a week or two. It showed. Didn't par a hole till I par'd the 9th hole, probably the second hardest hole of the 9 holes. So at least I felt good about that. Was just not hitting tee shots consistent at all. Only hit 2 FIRs and no GIRs so that makes for a tough scoring day. But was still fun and I got some exercise.

It's going to rain here pretty much all week (except tomorrow) so I wont get any more in till maybe Sunday.

Well snuck out today before the rain came in...got in 18 holes at my home course. Was fun but someone frustrating as my game is NOT where it should be. Mostly just due to lack of practice. Shot 83 (42/41) with several chances at birdies which I missed. Did have one exciting moment on a Par 3 where the ball bounced right towards the flag stick and disappeared and everyone was talking about maybe a hole in 1, but it wasn't. Close but the ball checked back and was in a low lieing area about 8 ft away. Oh well.

Didn't putt well but the greens were slick today which was fun for a change.

Today is such a beautiful and I want to be outside playing. I have to work all day. I did get out on Thursday, and on Friday to the driving range. I keep hoping for some more beautiful days to get out and play. I like this time a year because I like to just to get out and play before winter sets in. However, battling a little bit of a back injury so golf has not been the best or the most comfortable.

We went out today, had an 11:30 tee time (bit later than usual to allow some of yesterday's rain to drain off). Leaves starting to fall, but it's just beautiful because most of the trees still have leaves, I'd say this is peak for color. We saw a couple of fawns walking around the course.
Got paired with a couple and it was kind of like 5 hours of torture because the woman was a real beginner and awful. What can you do but try to enjoy the day. Shot 92, only had one 3 putt. My focus was a bit off due to the inordinate amount of time waiting between shots, so I probably should have played a little better, but it was a nice day. Started with a par on 1st hole, then no more until 3 pars in a row on the back 9.

My kingdom for some putts that fall!!!!

played today, a bit cool and windy, but played well. Shot 38 on the front 9 and was 3 over on the back with 2 to play and double bogeyed each to shoot 81. Augh! had 4 3-putts. But bad iron shots on the last 2 holes plus COUNTLESS birdie putts that rolled right over the lip just killed what could have been a great round. oh well. I can't complain given how little practice I'm doing these days.

This is such a fickle game. So today I was out with my daughter to play 9 holes and wouldn't you know it, after all the struggles I've had recently with my game, I shot 1 over par for those 9 holes. Got up and down 3 times to save par so that was really nice. While warming up I worked on accelerating my hands through the swing and for what its worth that seemed to work pretty well. My ball contact was crisp and I may have gained a few yards. Hard to know. But on one shot from the fairway, I was 112 yards from the flag, slightly uphill. I hit my Gap wedge which usually goes about 115 and I flew the green by 5-7 yards. So could have just been perfectly struck but it seemed like I got a little more club speed coming into the ball at contact.

Anyway, the only trouble I had was the leaves making it very hard to find my ball, even in the fairway.

My daughter played ok. it's been a long time since she's been out so she was pretty rusty. But we kept the pace moving and she did hit some good shots and some good putts. Not a lot, but some. But I kept encouraging her all a long. And then we headed for ice cream. So all and all, a great time was had by all.

Don't have to worry about losing me ball in the leaves. We got 18 inches of white stuff on the ground, so all the leaves are covered up with snow. Will be a few more days before I can even think of getting back out to play golf.

Yeah, I heard you guys were already getting snow. A friend of mine was out there not too long ago and remarked how cold it was getting. Well hope an early thaw comes soon so you can see the ground again. We continue to have lots of rain...good for my yard but not for my golf game. Rained pretty much all day yesterday and last night. Trick or Treaters still came out which was nice. No offense to meteorologists but they were calling for mostly sunny conditions yesterday and man they missed that one.

I suspect the ice cream was more important to her than the golf!

We played on Saturday, forcast called for chance of light rain on and off, but more likely later in the evening, so we decided to go for it with high temp of 70 degrees!
It wasn't a beautiful day, the sun never came out and we did get misted on a couple of times, gusty wind ocassionally, but heck, it was 70 degrees (had it been cooler, no way I would have played in those conditions). Leaves were carpeting the grass once you got off the fairway, so I consider myself lucky to have only lost one in the leaves.
Did pretty well on the front nine, 3 pars and 1 birdie (43). Second hole (birdie) was a chip in from 40 yards out with my LW...took one hop on the green and into the hole. Putted really well on the front, only 13 putts. Back nine I had 2 pars but lost focus and came in with a 48 for total 91. 4 GIR's, my par on short par 3 was a "sandy", ball plugged in face of damp bunker, blasted out with LW to within 3 feet and one putt.

Sun is out nice and strong. HIghs in the mid 60's all this week. Snow is mostly melted off already, so mid week should be good to get out and hit a few at the range. Might even see about playing 18 since the greens will be nice and soft after all the snow melt soaks into the ground. Soft SLOW fairways will not help with roll out, but we can't have it all.

Yes, I 'm sure it was. But I keep trying to get her interested in SOMETHING...

Better she learns about GOLF than BOYS. You'll sleep a lot better with her playing golf than being out late playing with boys. Good luck with the golf path.

Oh, but if she gets to be a good golfer, she'll meet plenty of boys. To play with. wink

Played 18+ today, it was 70+ degrees and sunny. So got to walk and played some good golf. Shot 77. 1 birdie, lots of Pars. Actually hit 11 GIRs. I missed a couple reasonable birdie putts though I made one. Best shot of the day was a PW into a Par 4 from 130 yards. Almost holed out. At leat made the tap in smile

Played on Sunday, unusually warm day, it was 65 degrees when we came off the course at 4pm. Pretty nice for November!
Shot 91, 3 pars. Wasn't focusing enough on my putts, I had quite a few that skirted over the edge of the hole/lipped out/missed by an inch. Could have been a better score. Somehow I still find it hard to really focus hard on every single shot.
I did however hit the ball hard...I played off the gold tees instead of the red tees and often found myself in the same position on the fairway despite the extra yards. Actually there's not a huge difference in the tee boxes except for one of the par 3's...it's around 700 yards total.
Course was in great shape, lush green fairways. Even lusher rough if you went off...

700 extra yards for 18 holes CAN be a pretty big change. 700 yards is pretty much the difference between the PGA tour coursed and the LPGA courses a lot of the time. Can get up to 1000 or so at times, but 700 is a good average. Going from 6400 yards to 7100 yards is pretty good stretch for most golfers. That's an average of 39 more yards per hole. That could mean 4 clubs length differene for the approach shot on a par 4. I rather like the idea of hitting an 8 iron for the second shot compared to hitting a 4 iron.

On the card, the yardage is 5212 red, 5934 gold. There was a more noticeable difference on the par 3's for me. 30 yards on a par 5 doesn't feel any different for me if I'm hitting my driver (and 2nd shot) well. Although I agree, Don, that I'd rather my 3rd shot into the green be a short iron or wedge. I think they had some of the tees moved up, so I doubt it played that long. Some of the tee markers were only 10 yards apart.
This was our links-style course and I'll do the stretch if it isn't windy, because the course plays a lot longer when the winds are blowing.

Aimee; This is where a GPS can come in really handy. If the tees are moved up on some holes, which happens a lot in the winter months, you might be a lot closer to the green then you think. And you might be better off hitting a different club off the tee in those cases.

For sure I'm using the GPS on par 3's - all year. Those tees always get moved around and on a shorter shot 10 yards will make a difference. On a par 4 or 5...not so much impact off the tee (I know some guys don't hit driver off the tee on par 4's, but I have no problem with that).

I'm going to be playing a courst soon that I haven't played before. I picked up a score card so I could get an idea of the layout. Looks like I'm going to be hitting fairway woods off the tee on all but maybe one of the par 4 and par 5 holes. The way to holes are layed out, hitting my driver wouldn't work. Short par 4 dogleg holes driver would put me past the corner of the doglgg, and into the rough. One the par 5's I'm better off hitting my 5 wood just short of trouble where my driver would put me. Might change my mind when I get on the course and see it for myself, but looking at the score card, I'm thinking I'll only hit driver on ONE hole.

Aimeel On par 3's, I use my laser, and get the exact yardage to the flag. I much prefer that to the yardage to front, middle and back of the green.
