What's your favorite food item on the Thanksgiving table?
For me, it's stuffing without doubt. Crispy edges, none of the gunky stuffing inside the turkey. I'm a carboholic.
I also love roasted chestnuts, which we have as a snack before the meal.

ONLY good stuffing is made INSIDE the bird. Can't say much for the outside kind. Will be cooking a turkey in a brown paper bag after we get to N.C. to visit my MOM. She has never done a turkey inside a paper bag, so we are going to do one and show her how much better it comes out this way. If you like MOIST, TENDER TURKEY, it's the only way to do a turkey.
Did I mention HOME MADE PECAN PIE???? Or MINCE MEAT PIE. I think I'm getting fatter already just thinking of all that good food.

I make a MEAN Pecan Pie...so I'll maybe cook one of those, maybe an Apple Pie. But we are a Ham family, so probably I'll cook a big ham, a variety of veggies, homemade rolls, and then have some nice red wine to go with it.

The stuffing and yams are my favorite. Oh, and the homemade cranberry sauce too! yum!

Stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy(thick), my Mom's sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, oh, and of course the main attraction - turkey (white meat)

What is Mince Meat Pie? Never had it, what's in it? Is it really meat?

It's a dried fruit mixture (minced up) mixed with booze so it soaks it up. No meat in it, but in the old days they used beef suet (fat) to bind it. Not too sweet, it's more of an adult kind of a taste. It's a British invention, and you know what good cooks they are grin

Yuck. Kind of like fruitcake I guess, haha. Speaking of British inventions, I had Beef Wellington for the first time this past weekend at, surprisingly, an Italian place called Bella Vista on Mt. Washington here in Pitsburgh. I thought it was going to be more complicated, but their approach was simply a super tender filet minon wrapped in a delicate, flaky pastry. Sort of reminded me of a steak sammich enveloped in a croissant, but obviously I'm not giving it enough credit. It was great.

Where's Kevboy when you need him... Kev, what's the word from the UK on Mince Meat Pie and Beef Wellington..

mince pies, as they are known, are staple part of my christmas diet. Absolutely lovely with cream.... just shame about the weight gain...

Beef wellington, is ok, but not my favourite - but the father in law swears its the best thing since slice bread

British food is at its best when its pure stodge- the type of food that hits the stomach and stays there for about a week - say fish and chips, suet pudding, full sunday dinner with all the trimmings.

speaking of which I'm starving.....grin

Chris. Mince Meat Pie, is NOTHING LIKE FRUIT CAKE. I Can't stand Fruit Cake, but I LOVE Mince Meat Pie. It's right up there with good Pumpkin Pie and Good Dutch Apple Pie. If you like raisins, you should try it. Kind of sweet, like Pecan pie tends to be.
Does anyone here like Plum Pudding with Hard Sauce on top? It's another British offering, but it's good, unlike some things the Brits come up with.

Oh man, fish and chips with a nice pint of Tetley's or Bass always puts a smile on my face.

Hmmm.. Ok, I will make it a point to try Mince Meat Pie.. Never had the Plum Pudding.. I think I need to take a UK golf, grub, and grog adventure.

Great idea, we have a lot of different nationalities in our family so there were a lot of the traditional stuff but a lot of unusual foods. One family brought large shrimp and wrapped them in the wrapper used to make spring rolls and deep fried them. They were real good. One of the Turkeys was a deep fried breast but I liked the one cooked in the oven with butter and sage stuffed inside the skin and then stuffed with dressing and cooked in a brown bag. That was excellent. Salmon in a white sauce, Pecan pie, strawberry cheese cake and homemade cranberry sauce. are all my favorites every year.
