I was watching the PGA merchandise show on the golf channel this weekend and saw where a guy was there setting a new world record for balls hit in 1 hour.

He hit 2438 balls in 1 hour.

If that would wear you out, you can try for the world record for 30 minutes........1327 balls in 30 minutes.

Is there no end to the stupid things people will do just to set a record? Someone must have been real bored to come up with that idea.Wonder what his handicap is? Sounds like a good way to ingain some bad habits.

I caught a blurb on that while I had TGC on this weekend. I could have sworn they said the guy was David Ogrin - it sure looked like him.

David joined The Tour in the mid-eighties and I'm pretty sure won sometime in the '90s. He's probably late 40s by now. My guess is that if it was him, he was probably doing it for charity, not just to get into Guiness.

Did you guys see the dude that won the contest to go to the show? A dermatologist!! Jesus! Why do guys that can afford anything they want enter contests!! It pisses me off!
He took his brothers with him, and they asked each one what the coolest thing at the show was that they had seen. These rubes said "The Momentus Swing Trainer" and "The Divix Divot Repair Tool." I hope to God they got paid to say that! Sounds like these jack holes would have been content going to their local golf retailer!! Then they all got to choose a set of clubs from any manufacturer they wanted, and they all chose Hogan!! Good clubs, but come on guys, live a little!! "Hey let me hit your new Hogan five iron Bob... Only if I can hit your new Hogan five iron Steve..." GRRRRRRRRRRR They should have an IQ requirement for these contests I think!!
Oh well, I'm just mad cause it wans't me, I know!!

Are you talking about the guy that brought his 4 brothers with him to the show? They ended up getting a complete set of clubs from anyone that they wanted and all 5 of them chose Ben Hogan equipment.

I found it rather fun to watch for the 3 days that it was on, but the Golf Channel could have done just a little bit better on their interviews and product reviews. And that guy they had as their fashion expert was about goofy.

Yeah, thats the one Kevin. Golf Channel had a contest. I thought it was kinda lame that all 4 brothers chose the same brand of clubs when they had the pick of anything they wanted. Maybe Hogan's new products are just that good? Who knows? Mr. Style can go away. Golf Digest can fire him and Golf Channel needs to stop giving him air time. I don't need "Queer Eye for the Golf Guy," thank you very much. Kohl's $9.99 polo shirts are fine with me, the rest can be spent on green fees.
I posted my sentiments regarding the brothers' choice in the Golf Channel discussion board and people jumped on me like I was insulting their children! They said the "coolest" thing they saw at the show were the Divix divot fixer and the Momentus swing trainer!! And then they all chose the same clubs like a bunch of robots! It just got to me! I guess I am too much of an individualist to fit in. Thank God!

I would have loved to have been there and been given the chance to pick any brand of clubs I wanted for free. Would have been either all brand new Callaway equipment or all brand new Ping equipment.

I myself am pushing my limits on fashion when I spend money on a pair of Dockers shorts and Ashworth shirt.

Call me silly, but JC Penny and Walmart are fine places to buy nice golf clothes.

Got that right! Yeah, I'd like to outfit myself in Ping throughout the bag. But variety is good too!
Walmart, K-mart, Kohl's. I could buy all the brand name golf apparrel, but who cares. Sweat and sun destroy golf shirts after about a month anyway. Leave it to someone who doesn't play the game to tell us to wear a $100 polo shirt. Couple times out and that shirt is toast! I've gotten a few "expensive" shirts as gifts and often times they fare no better or worse than the cheapos.

That's like I saw somewhere that sells the "Bobby Jones" collection of golf apperal. The shirts were all right around $100 per shirt.

My wife and I are making our annual trek to Myrtle Beach Feb 11 to do nothing but clothes shop. The outlets are getting rid of the 2004 stuff to make room for 2005, so we end up making out like bandits. It's a little strange for me to go there without my clubs, but it's worth it.

Not to sound cheap or something, but when I got tricked into playing this game two years ago, my wife and I got a bunch of golf clothes at Kohls at 80% off. I must have 30 golf shirts and 20 pairs of pants and shorts, all from Kohls's at 80% off. Haggar slacks for less than $10.00. Shirts for around $5.00 or $7.00. Even got a pair of Docker pants with a seperate pocket for your score card in the back and a inside compartment at the bottom of one of the side pockets. Don't know what I'm supposed to put in the little compartment, but it must be for something. Might be for a ball marker or divot repair tool. Who knows? And I have to agree, the fashion Guru in the Golf magazines have to go, they are snobs.

I'm not too up on fashion Don, but I think the smaller compartment in the side pocket is a throwback to yesteryear when people carried pocket watches. It was for your watch so it wouldn't get scratched I believe. They still put them in pants pockets as a force of habit kind of thing.

I know the pocket you are talking about, but this is not the same one. This is just a little extra something at the bottom of the regular pocket. Its sewn into the front of the pocket and at the bottom. The pants also has a small pocket just behind the side pocket. This pocket is like a small version of the normal side pocket, same style of pocket, just real small. Most of the "watch" pockets I have seen are made so that the opening of the pocket is horizontal. This one has a vertical opening, just like the side pockets. Maybe we need the Fashion Guru after all?

I'll ask my brother-in-law in San Francisco about that little pocket. He's had that queer eye thing going forever and knows everything there is to know about fashion and Barbara Streisand.

No, we definitely don't need Mr. Style! Maybe that's why they were on sale?

OK, Here goes..
All my golf stuff is Polo Golf (think Tom Watson, Davis Love) here in CT there is a Ralph Lauren outlet and lots of sources for the stuff, shirts, pants, sweaters, windshirts, etc..dirt cheap; I have nothing over $29. Actually, all I wear is Polo stuff in general, down to pj's and underwear, just like the way his stuff fits me.

Hey, why would anyone want to wear a golf shirt or pants more than a couple of times anyway? If you do, wear Tommy Bahama, they last forever. Tommy Bahama shirts also look good when you address the ball using your Hogan forged irons.

Bill,

I'll be finishing Jimmy Buffet's 'A Pirate Looks at Fifty' next week at the beach. That should put me in the mood to buy some of TB's island style stuff. I'm a little vertically challenged, though, so I'm not sure how much selection I'll find.

Sorry; Nothing over $29 is not dirt cheap. I don't have anything over $10 that I know of. If you really want dirt cheap, check out Kohl's when they have one of their 80% off sales. You can get $50-$60 golf pants for under $10. They may have an extra pocket in them that you don't know what to with, but they are cheap. The only problem with Kohl's is that most of the stuff they sell runs big. I wear a size large shirt, but at Kohl's I have to get either small or medium if I want it to fit. That might be why they have them on sale, no one that tried on the clothes liked the fit, so they but them back on the rack? Just call me the "Birdman of Kohl's". Cheap, Cheap, Cheap. Save money on clothes and play more golf!

Don,
I heard shopping at Kohl's can put golfers in a bad mood because they also mismark the size of underwear and it affects ball control.

Actually I do shop a Kohls on occassion and have a couple of polo-syle golf shirts with the "open" sleeves, which I prefer to "banded" sleeves. I can get them in large-long size which is rare, and the quality is great and sale price is about $10. Pants are another matter for they MUST have inward facing pleats (I know this is anal but on this feature I will not compromise) Lauren is one of only a very few designers who make pants with inward facing pleats.

I bought a bunch of shirts at Structure (I guess it's Express for Men now) a few years ago that work perfect for golf in Florida. They're very light and kind of stretchy and they don't collect very much sweat or moisture at all. I think I got them for about $15-20 each and purchased 2-3 of them on a couple of seperate occasions. I didn't purchase them with golf in mind the first time I picked the shirts up, but they work very well for golf and are wearable to go out in also (if you're going relatively casual).
