I have took-up the game of golf and looking at purchasing a set of clubs. I have my eyes on Nike's new slingshot irons and the Ignite 460cc driver. I am 6'8 with 39 inch front wrist to floor. I went to golfsmith and they recommend a 3 degree loft but the clubs can only be modified for a 2 degree loft. Would it be ok to go to a place like gigagolf.com and get the clones? Why can gigagolf make clones with a 3 degree loft but golfsmith cant with the original irons? Also what would I be losing (aside from resale value) by going with the cheaper cloned irons.

aarong, welcome!
Are you talking about having GolfSmith adjust the lie angles on the clubs for you, or order them from Nike? Cast clubs (like the Slingshots) can only be bent a limited number of degrees due to the possibility of breakage. Many shops will refuse to bend cast clubs at all. If you can't get them in the specs you need, I would suggest you look elsewhere. The Ignite is a solid driver. I just got one off Ebay and it's plenty long and forgiving. Don't get caught up in the "matching bag" syndrome. Look around, there are plenty of clubs as forgiving or more forgiving than the Slingshots.

you got another driver ? lol
How's the ignite working out for you ?

aarong, i've picked up golf this year too from a few years lay off and just got new irons. I'm no expert but i can say that whatever you do, you must get the specs you need. For the first time i have irons with lie angle that match me perfect and it makes a world of difference.
