Bogey: from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A bogey can be:

A hobgoblin commonly associated with the bogeyman or boogeymen; see also boggart.

A term used by fighter pilots to refer to an unidentified aircraft (especially enemy aircraft).

British slang for a piece of dried mucus; see the American equivalent, booger. The term was made famous in the United States by Harry Potter purists who objected to its replacement with "booger" in the American version.

A golf term for "one over par". This most likely evolved from the legend of the Colonel Bogey (who inspired Kenneth Alford's Colonel Bogey March).

The nickname of Humphrey Bogart.

A term used in NW England in the 1950s and 60s for what is known elsewhere as a soap-box cart.

I sure hope you have someone sign your card as a witness, 'cause I for one don't believe you Flo...

You've gone from not breaking 90 but two months ago to breaking par? Call me cynical, but I've NEVER seen ANYONE drop 20 strokes in two months. Care to share the secrets of your astronomical success? If we all make it out to Colorado this summer, you better find a way to make it, 'cause apparently you'd own all our wallets...

Mikey trust me I know why your cynical and I got it from everybody today. Ill take a picture of the card and link it out tomorrow. I've gone to the range 3-4 times a week and I just kept hitting balls until I started getting the hang of it. I broke 90 and I went crazy. I had to break 80 as quick as possible to catch up to the competition around me. I went even more. Hit up 9-hole courses everyday I could. I became a golf crackhead. Here I am now shooting low 70s. I can work the ball on demand, and well I know why your going to call me a skeptic. I got a tournament June 1, 2006. South florida PGA WEstfield JR Qualifier at Miami Springs. My results will be on there. You cant cheat in a tournament so youll see it for yourself.

I'm kinda mad nobody trusts me around here, but hey sorry it seems out of the ordinary but I dont know one person who has put this much time into their game beside myself.

Omar,
I sure hope you are doing that well. That would be phenomenal. I have just never seen anyone drop that many scores off their handicap so quickly. There are so many facets to golf to master. I do know plenty of people who have put a lot of time into their game and not had those kinds of results. I also have not heard of someone doing it all by themself and not receiving instruction. You also have a history -just a few short weeks ago in fact-
in which you admitted to "foot wedges" when stuck behind trees, or mulligans when playing with dear old DAD. You have had a history of contradicting yourself. Don't be a "vanity 'capper" or it's gonna bite you when you get into competition.

For persons that have played for a number of years, they know how difficult it can be to shave just one stroke off their handicap. So please forgive my skepticism, but I'd have to see it to believe it. I'll be very interested in seeing your scores from your competitive rounds. Please let us know when those are up.

Mike, you can add me to your name of those that don't believe a word Omar types. This is the same kid that broke 90 for the first time and told us his handicap was 12.7. That's total crap. His driver distance was around 230 a few monthes ago, and now he's telling us he's hitting it close to 300 yards. Sure kid. You gain 50 to 70 yards off the tee and take more than 20 strokes off your score in less than 3 months? RIGHT. I think you had better post your FULL NAME, THE ONE YOU PLAY UNDER, SO YOU CAN TELL US HOW MUCH YOU WIN THAT GOLF EVENT BY. You also claim to be good enough to play on TEAM USA in baseball, but too heavy to make your high school football team. And now you're breaking par in golf? Why don't I believe any of this bull? You're also the same kid that didn't have enought money to take golf lessons, and wanted me to analize your swing video for you a few months ago. The same kid that now has enought money to buy a set of Nike Pro Combo irons and a new Ignite driver. Let's not forget the new putter. How the hell do you expect anyone to believe you when you post this bull? I don't believe a word you type, and I'm pretty sure most of the other members on this site feel the same way.

Hey don let me ask you a question if you dont mind. Can a person alter parts of his swing then swing harder and faster? Yes I do believe they can. The football team comment was, I was to heavy to be a QB in there eyes XXXXX I only weigh 225. Team USA Catcher 2 years ago before I banged up the XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX knee needed surgery I weighed 190 back then. I did have money to take golf lessons but I understand what I wrote, and well ok there I can admit that it was off. Pro Combos for my bday, Ignite for xmas and a whole new odyssey putter that was a miserable 89 dollars. Wait for the tournament to come around and I will post the link and Ill even give you the full name how about that. I promise all of you right here right now that score will be no higher than 80! The handicap decreases because as you well know Don, If you dont have more than the 10 rounds of 18 hole play it takes the best 10. Thats what I read yahoo does atleast. Ive hit 300 with luck down range down wind and you know that is very well possible. Have I put myself in vunerable positions? Yes that is true that I have. Why would I lie over a freaking game, its a game people go out there hit a ball and well if there lucky enough they make money from it. I really dont see the need for someone to be attacking me. I mean cmon give me a break winning an arguement over the internet is for little kids. Right now let me go over the improvement of my game position for position.

Long Game (driver,woods,3/4 Iron) Cant hit the Irons for jack squat. My Driver yesterday averaged 263.1 with a down wind drive of 301 (30 mph gusts).

Mid Irons (5-7) Gotten 20x better at working the ball and being able to get myself within no more than 4 yds around the green.

Short Irons (8-LW) These are dead accurate where I want to put it is where it goes. Had a few spin a little to much but nothing outside 15 feet of the cup.

Short game: Worked tremendously on this as this was the weakest part of my game. I havent had a chip be farther than 8 feet from the cup all year.
Putting: Ive realized my alignment with my feet has been off ever so slightly sending all my putts to the right. Therefore, Ive stood farther from the ball more upright to accomadate the 35" putter and have been putting beautifually.

Edited to remove bad language for the last time. I've told you 3 times before that we will not allow this use of fool language on this site. Next time, I'll delete the whole post and ask the site admin, that you be banned from the site for good.

Sure omar, but you posted that you had just broke 90 for the first time, and had a handicap of 12.7. So, tell me, how can your 10 scores all be over 90 and you have a handicap of 12.7 ? Truth is, if all your 10 scores were 90, which they weren't, you would have a handicap of just under 18. Now do you understand why I don't believe a word you type? I don't care if you had 5 or 20 scores all over 90 and one round that broke 90, you're handicap would still be over 18, not 12.7 as you claimed.

Omar,
Try to take it in stride my friend. The fella's have valid observations, but that doesn't mean you're lying. If you know you're doing what you say, that your remarkable progress is in fact true, then you're knowing that is all you need. However, as an active member of this forum, with your numerous contributions regarding the game, equipment, and general chit-chat, it can serve to highlight any inconsistancies you state in your postings. It's not unreasonable for the guys to have a measure of skepticism, as they are all avid players who work hard on their games as well, and know how hard-earned even minor progress comes, not to mention such dramatic improvements as you claim, that are uncommon to their own experience, or what they have ever heard.

When one receives criticism, or has their claims called into question, it's difficult to not take a naturally "defensive" posture, rather than reflect on why it's an issue, especially when it comes from respected voices, and there is some sort of concensus. You have to take these things into consideration. And it's not easy, but it is mature.

Finally, you will soon have your day in the sun, when you play the PGA Westfield JR Qualifier. "The proof of the pudding is in the eating." You will have an opportunity to legitimize your claims, as it won't be like you're posting your scores from the "Hyperbole Open."

Again, try to take it in stride. You've made valuable contributions to the site, and repairing any damage to your credibility is not such a difficult task, but is necessary at times like this. You can do it. Just try to be open, and take things into consideration. Make sure you properly qualify your claims, context is everything. And try to refrain from using any profanity, though it surely sprung from a defensive posture since you felt you'd been called out, and your emotions had the upper hand. You're a good guy, it will work out in the end, and I've always appreciated your zeal for the game.

Well, Today I had a tournament for school and shot a 93(44-49). The first 5 holes I couldn't even hit the ball solidly because the course was very wet and I don't have golf shoes, resulting in my front foot turning and my turning my wrists too early. Over those holes I had 2 triples, then i made a lot of pars to finish the round. On the 9th hole I made the luckiest shot of my life. I was inbetween a couple of trees about 150, and the whole was blocked by the tree on the right, so I had no choice but aim left of the whole. I pulled the ball much further left than i wanted, the ball hit a cartpath, then a tree, and bounces 15 ft from the hole, and I made par.

I started off the back 9 with a 7 on a par 3:( I then bogeyed the next 8 holes while only hitting 1 fairway and 1 green. I am still on my quest to break 90, and am hoping to break 80 next week at our big tournament. Some of you don't believe that it's possible to drop 20 strokes in less than a month, but i know that i can do it. The biggest weekness in my game is consistency. If i can hit my driver well, my irons good, and improve my wedges, it shouldn't be a problem.

Not WAde; well I guess we will find out if you can drop 20 strokes in a few weeks. You posted that you are still looking to break 90, but hope to break 80 next week in a tourniment. Well, let us all know if you in fact do it. I wish you success. But even if you do manage it, does that mean you will continue to do it all the time? Sounds good, but not likely to happen. Again, I hope you do, but I for one am not going to bet money on it happening. We have all seen the pros on Tour shot a 62 one day and a 78 the next. But that's not the same thing as lowering your handicap 20 strokes in a few weeks. Good luck and success in your big tourniment next week, and be sure to post your results.

i will definitely not be consistently be shooting in the 70s, but i should be in the mid to low 80 by next month. I've had a lot of rounds in the low 40s, but i usually have about 3 holes that add up to 10 over that really hurt my final score. Also, I've been working on my driving and my fairways per round have gone up from 1 to 3 in the last 2 weeks. And i just said I hope i will break 80, which I hope every time I play.

I'm afraid it began it's life as an Accord 4 door and became a Civic hatchback...
I'm happy to have walked away from it anyway. I think I'll get another one, but maybe a 2 door this time...

I.B. Hurtin' is my new screen name...
Coedine has become my new friend. I go to the chiropractor tomorrow, and I have an appointment with a neurologist in a couple weeks (don't ya love waiting to see a doctor when you really need one?)
I'm so mad. Wait all winter to play golf and this happens. Plus, my sick days will be eaten up by this, along with some vacation I'm sure. All because some jack*ss drops his pop and reaches for it. At the same time I'm worried because who knows if my body will ever be the same again. Hopefully I'll know more after tomorrow.

Mike, if you haven't done so, you might want to get a lawyer. You can show that the accident impacted your well being, ability to work, mental state ...etc.
Not that I advocate sueing everyone, but it seems justified in this case. That idiot's employer has plenty deep pockets.
