So what do people think is going to happen this week?

Are we going to have a repeat of 99? (I seriously hope not!)

Anybody have any surprise winners?

I have seen the draw for the first 2 groups - Tiger woods, Justin Rose and Paul Lawrie - looks like an interesting matchup!
I would like a Ian Poulter win (Just so we can see Ian wearing something ...interesting...)

Kev, did you ever see a movie which came out (I would guess) a good 15-20 years ago...Robert Redford in "The Electric Horseman" (I think that was the name)...he wore chaps with little lightbulbs all over them, flashing like a Christmas tree. That I'd like to see Ian Poulter wearing!

I tell you, I liked it (was it last year I believe) when Tiger won using irons off the tee. There's a guy that knows how to get it done. Me, I think someone else will win this year. I'm going to go out of a limb and pick Monty...just because the big man is DUE!!!!

Talk about going out on a limb? That limb is cut half way though. Monty never wins a major.

Scott, I'm from the U.S.A. so I naturally cheer for a U.S. guy to win.
Did your parents name you after Monty's country? Is it a 3rd world country?
Who is Monty anyway?

When Monty's father first saw him, he said to his wife, "what should we name 'im?
She said, "I don't know what to name 'im."
His father, who always called his father by his last name, said, "I'll Call In Montgomery, he'll know what to name him."

Now I ask you, how could someone who acquired their name in that manner, ever expect to defeat a tiger?

Speaking of the Open, I was reading about Tiger's practice round Monday and the weather made it a very challenging. I saw Tiger was in the whispery rough, hit a full 4I with all the force he could muster, watched it sail over the bunker and towards the green...As he approached the green he was surprised to see his ball short of the green, especially given he was only 117 yards from the front of the green and 130 or so from the flag when he hit the 4I!

Wow! He hit a full 4I about 100 yards..

Don, it doesn't scare you that you can understand? So you're surprised you understand; amazed you understand; but not scared you understand? Now even that scares me.

(sorry I don't have anything to say about the British Open; hope to start watching Friday.)

I'm surprised at what he types
I'm amazed he can come up with all this stuff.
But no, I'm not scared that I understand him.
For a crazy person, Bill is quite sane.

Awesome finish, loads of drama and excitement, but didn't pan out the way I was hoping. I like both Padraig and Sergio, happy to see either one win their first major; but, I was liking the mythic sort of synchronicity between Seve Ballesteros retirement, and Sergio taking his first major, the British Open no less, which would have been so fitting.

Still, happy for Padraig, he most definitely earned it. And though Andres Romero almost snuck in and swiped it from both of them at the last minute, I was happier to see players who are well-established in our minds compete in the play-off, and take the title. I believe Sergio's time is coming soon though; amazing how far and accurate he can hit irons... and he has so much fire.

I was rooting for Sergio. Don't know exactly why, but I was. After being ahead for 3 days, it was a shame he couldn't play a bit better on Sunday and win it. His swing sure looks good right now. I wonder how many of us would ever hit an iron off the tee on a 499 yard par 4? Not me, I need my driver for that shot.

Does anyone know how Sergio finished in the putting stats? I thought he had like 27 on thursday and 30 on Friday, but didn't see what he did on the weekend. I know putting's been his weakness in the past but he switched to the belly putter recently and I was wondering if he statistically improved? I was rooting for him but it seemed his iron play and maybe his club selection on Sunday was the problem this time, not so much his putting, but I didn't quite see the whole round.

No excuses, but a little in defense of Sergio.

He needs par on the 18th to win and he has to stand in the fairway waiting for someone to rake 2 bunkers that should have been raked before he was ready to hit. While wanting to hit the shot of his life, that wait was probably a little nerve wracking. He pulled the shot into the bunker.

Next, he misses a putt that would give him the win and has a big let down. That caused a serious change in his physical and mental condition, wouldn't you say?

He signs his score card and immediately has to go into a 4 hole playoff without enough time to regain full composure. Harrington had over half an hour to settle his mind. Sergio bogeys, Padraig birdies.

That's the way it goes, but I think Sergio hung in there fairly well, considering the magnitude of the situation.

BTW, I don't even like young kids that hit the ball over 300 yds.
I was hoping for a Nick Faldo come back.

I can't help but wonder is there's a reason you have the same initials, B.H., as the great Ben Hogan? Is this just the golfing Gods, way of letting us know you can play a good game of golf? I wonder if I change my name to Tim Williams, and start marking my ball with a T.W., maybe I'll start playing like Tiger Woods? This may be Wishfull thinking, but at least it proves I'm thinking.
