Well, it's 2008 now, and everyone should have spent their Christmas gift cards by now.

What did you get that's new in your bag? Or outside the bag?

For me (new toys in bold):
Driver: 2008 TaylorMade R7 CGB Max 460cc 10.5*
Woods: Callaway X Hot 3 wood 15*
Hybrid: Callaway X Hybrid 3H 21*
Irons: 2008 TaylorMade R7 CGB Max 5i-9i
Wedges: 2008 TaylorMade R7 CGB Max PW, AW, SW (54*); Callway X-Tour 60* loft 11* bounce
Putter: Odyssey White Hot XG 2-ball SRT Lined
Balls: Precept Laddie Extreme (early 2007 versions), Top-Flite D2 Distance, and anything else I can get from demo days
Shoes: Footjoy GF:II, soon to be replaced with the ReelFits.
Accessories: still looking at either a laser rangefinder or Sonnocaddie GPS.

Well, the only new addition was the driver:
Callaway Big Bertha 2007 (11 deg)

Got a bunch of gloves and golf balls at the end of the year when I won a credit to the pro shop at a tournement.
Have 3 pairs of shoes (1 Footjoy + 2 Bite), just need new spikes.

Well, I added a CObra 5I Hybrid, Baffler series, to my bag for testing. haven't used it too much since I haven't been able to play much since the holidays, but maybe soon...Otherwise, still the Cobra driver and 3W, Callaway 5W, Callaway X-tour irons and Cleveland and TM wedges and a Ping CRAZ-E putter.

You guys are no fun. I think filling a new bag with clubs would be more fun than selling my extra drivers.

got enough nike stuff fjjra?

what, you dont like their shoes and underwear? \:\)

my bag is the same except for the woods.

Taylormade R7 460 10.5*
Maxfli A10 15*
Cleveland TA7 2 iron - Cleveland 19* driving iron
Cleveland CG4 3-PW
Cleveland TA6 50*, 55*
Cleveland CG11 60*
Callaway Odyssey white hot blade putter
Callaway HX Tour/Tour56 ball
Callaway bag

yes, i know thats 16 clubs \:\)

the driving iron and 2 iron never make it in together, and then i decide (given the course and shots it may require) whether or not i need the fairway wood, 2 iron (or driving iron), or 60* wedge.
only 14 clubs make it onto the course in any given day, but depending on WHICH course i have a few options.

I mentioned I had a new Cobra Baffler 5I Hybrid that I got for Christmas. I went to the range Friday and hit it and after a couple swings I sort of had the hang of how to hit that club...the big problem is I hit it too damned far. I hit it probably 20 yard farther than my 5I...that doesn't help me at all. Hell I hit it farther than I do my 4 Hybrid from what I could tell on the range. Grants thats about 200 yards away so my eyesight could hvae been wrong but it sure looked that way. Guess I'll have to test it on the course to be sure...but if I do hit it that much farther, I don't know if I can use it..because it's through everything else off...ugh!!!!

could be the graphite shaft as opposed to the steel in the irons.

when i had graphite shafts in my irons, they were a full club longer, and almost always with a bit of a draw.
now, theyre not as long, but workable both ways and a little more accurate.

if youre replacing a 5 iron with a graphite 5 hybrid, i wouldnt be at all surprised to see 20 yards difference.

......and for some reason, i STILL havent ever met a hybrid i like.
i mean really. how many people still have a 2 iron......without dust on it?

i FINALLY found a modern fairway wood i like (that maxfli a10) but hybrids just dont do it for me.
fortunately i can still hit a 3 iron and the 4 iron is one of my favorite clubs.
i have no idea what i'd do if that changed!

Distance with hybrida and wood can be quite different for all of us. I was hitting my 24* 9 wood at the range yesterday, and it was going well past the 200 yard sign. I was hitting it 195 before I made a swing change. I'm going to have to re-do all my yardage numbers when the weather warms up and I can get out to measure my yardages again.

umm, I got a new box of Slazenger balls. I think it was a cheap gift from my Dad as my BIL also got the same box. I think he won these last year in his league. Oh, well, they are new to me!! \:D

Yeah, those re-gifted gifts are just swell aren't they? \:\) \:\)

Klun, let us know what you think of them when you hit them. I had some of the RAW model and they seemed "hard" when I hit them.

Most of the new drivers are pretty good. The main thing is finding one with the right shaft for your swing. The FT-i Tour is real good. So are the HiBore XL and Cobra LD. All 3 drivers can be worked left and right without too much trouble. And all 3 are very long and easy to hit.

obviously don is dead on with regards to the shaft, though there are a few drivers out there with good stock shafts and clubheads that (IMHO) clearly are a cut above the rest.

the hibore xl (xls is the newest model, though im very impressed with the xl considering the price), nike sasquatch sumo (last years model with the 4950 MOI. only SLIGHTLY less than the current 5000 but with a 45" shaft as opposed to the new 45.75"), and taylormade r7 draw.

all 3 of these drivers stood out over the rest, and all 3 had a wonderful combination of forgiveness combined with distance.
i'm playing the taylormade, and while it IS a draw bias, it is still relatively easy to fade, and mishits only lose about 10% of their distance.
it was the best fit for me, though i have two friends (one a high handicapper and the other a single digit) who went with the hibore.
personally, i dont think you could go wrong with any of the three, and compared to that callaway x460 (keep in mind im a big callaway fan) would be a big improvement. just my .02

I second Don's notion about the Cobra LD Speed. I replaced my TM R5 which I loved with a Cobra and it's longer and easier to work. Sounds REALLY loud when you hit it, high ball flight but it goes.....

Thanks for the input, I was playing with a guy who had the Cobra LD Speed and it looked like it was a great driver. I'm going to go to the golf store and see what they have, and ask the club fitter what he'd recommend.
