Ok, since I was lucky enough to win the July Course Review contest, I now have $100 to spend on some type of golf equipment.

Now, I currently have a new driver, a 5 wood(metal), a 1 iron, chipper, and newer putter, plus my trusty 3-PW irons.

I am thinking about getting a higher lofted wedge and was wanting to know what would be better to get.

My Golden Bear irons are 23 years old, but I like them. Probably because they are comfortable for me. They have probably lost some distance over the years, but I know them, and just adjust to a different club.

What I'm thinking about is either going with 1 wedge (just not sure if it will be a lob, sand, or loft) or getting this set

Just curious as to what you guys/gals think.

Get the set and a 56 degree sand wedge.

The set does come with a 56 Sand Wedge, or do you mean to get a "good" sand wedge.

Sorry for being a little bit dumb today, I am at work and just got out of a meeting.

I have a PW and Cleveland 56° & 60° wedges. The 56 is my SW.

I would go with the Cleveland or the Vokey wedges. Then practice. You use these clubs so much, so get good wedges.

My problem is I don't practice enough with them. I use them so much so you would think it would be one of the most practiced clubs but it isn't for me. But that is changing. I've finally learned my lesson.

Klun, are u saying your irons are 23 yrs old or just your wedges? Either way GET NEW ONES. On the wedge front, I prefer not getting sets of wedges, but rather get one I feel fits a niche for me. I love all my wedges, carry 4 of them at all times. But if all you've ever had is GB, I'd say try something new and grab a Cleveland or Titleist just to get the feel of something new.

This would be my vote also.

Oh, yeah, my irons are at least 23 years old.

I have never felt the need to buy a new set of irons. I may eventually get a new set, but for right now, I know my irons, I know what I need to do to play my irons. What I need to do to be more consistent, is to play more. In fact, this is the first year in a long time that I have played more than 3 times in the whole year. And I have only been out 4x so far but will be playing this Saturday and Sunday.

Klun,
I have a set of old Ping Eye 2's that probably are as old as yours. I had them passed down to me from my father in law when I first started playing.

I didn't want to buy new irons until I got better and more consistent. I'm a lot more consistent than I was last year, so I think I'm going to be buying some new clubs this year.

I'm not getting rid of the old Ping's. I'm going to get them refurbed, regripped, and cleaned up and give them back to my father in law. He is pretty sentimental and used to golf with his dad with these clubs, who has since passed.

I did try out the Ping i10's on a launch monitor, put plan on trying them out on the range.

You know, you guys are right. I've seen the error of my ways. Tomorrow, I'm heading out to sell my late model car with lots of amenities and see if I can find an old 72 Ford Pinto without air, power anything, air bags, CD player or seat belts. Maybe I can find one with a cassette player though. I mean heck, if I only drive it a couple times a year, who cares if it's not the easiest most enjoyable ride, I'll get there eventually and maybe in one piece...right?? \:\) \:\) Just fooling with ya Klun...

But seriously though, my prediction is that once you hit the new wedges, you'll see the difference and a new but used set of irons will be on your horizon very soon. And that'll be a good thing!

Scott, that is cool. Except for my irons, my new driver and my cheap a$$ 5 wood, my other clubs (putter, chipper, and 1 iron, even my stand bag) are clubs that I 'stole' from my Dad. May even try to talk him into new clubs and 'steal' his irons (they aren't that old probably bought some time after 2000) LOL

Scott, I don't doubt that I will eventually get a new set of irons. Right now though, I'm just looking at spending Chris' money on either a single wedge (lob, sand, or loft) or on the set of wedges that has all three.

Klun, I bought 3 wedges this spring Cleveland 588s, 53, 56 and 60 for $55 each at Golfsmith. Prior to that I only an old Titleist DTR SW. The Clevelands are getting to be the most consistant clubs I have in my bag and the 588s might be a bit less expensive, since there are at least 2 or 3 newer versions.Cleveland is well known for its wedges. Probably only Vokey is more popular.

I have those wedges also, as Chief says (and Happy Birthday, Chief), since they are an older style, they are very reasonable in cost. They are really good wedges for the average golfer.

Now Klun, you know I'm messing with ya. But the 588's are great wedges. And at a good price these days now that the Cg12's are out.

Happy Birthday Chief!

Scott, i know you are just messin' around.

However, I did buy the Maxfli Men's Black Max Wedge RH-2008

http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3001382

Got it for $40. I will have the opportunity to test it out this weekend since I am playing Saturday & Sunday.

Also picked up a dozen Noodle+ balls.

The lady at Dick's was extremely helpful and very nice and just by talking to her, I learned a few things.

I hit a 588 wedge awhile back, and it was very nice. Hard to hit the ball too fat with it, as it didn't want to dig in behind the ball at all. Very easy to hit well. Should have purchased it but I was too cheap when they were $120 a club. Now I have seen them for half that. If I needed new wedges, I have to go buy a set of them.
