TaylorMade Review: R7 CGB Irons
Manufacturer: TaylorMade Golf
Details: R7 CGB with Graphite (Stiff) Shafts
Purchase: I hit these clubs in the spring, during demo days. I really liked them, but at $1300 - that's too high for me. I hit them again in late summer at another course - they felt better than I remembered. Started searching E-Bay, after 6 weeks of lost auctions, I got the 3-PW in graphite/stiff for $432.00. I was concerned about the authenticity, but verified them with TaylorMade. They were legit.

Pros: These are the most amazing clubs I've ever hit. I've hit shots off the toe, got good feedback that I missed the sweet spot, but they still carried pretty well and straight. When you hit it pure, the feeling is awesome. The ball seems to jump off the club face. Over the years, I've had 8 sets of clubs - these are easily my favorites.
Cons: All the clubs are strong lofts. For example, my old TaylorMade RAC LT's Pitching Wedge was 47 degree's - the R7 CGB's (and the R7 XD's) are 44 degree's. So, the PW hits like my old 9-iron. So, I've had to re-adjust my distances for irons. Great for the ego and bragging to your unknowing friends. Just so I'm clear, you still get the Pitching Wedge type flight pattern, even though the lie is lower than expected. The ball flies off the club.
R7 CGB Quality: TaylorMade is a quality company. The clubs feel very solid at impact. The only thing I might change is that the finish is a high polish mirror'd look. I think a satin finish would look better over time. Just my opinion... The shafts are stock R7-55, which are TM Stiff - very please with them.

Summary: Amazing - I can't say more. Feedback is very good, the club is very forgiving. I'm still able to hit a draw or fade when I need to - so, even though they're considered game improvement irons - you can still work them left to right/right to left. I've gained some real distance off these clubs - I couldn't be happier.
TaylorMade R7 CGB Rating: 5

Game: I've been playing 20+ years. My weakness is probably distance with irons. My home course is Eisenhower Golf Course in Colorado Springs. My favorite all-time course is 'The Judge' on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama.
