TaylorMade Review: rac HT IronsManufacturer: TaylorMade Golf Pros: The lightweight steel shafts are all .250 longer than standard on the HTs and the OS models, and this seems to fit the clubs perfectly. Very nice feel when swinging. Clubs can still dig in if you're not stable at setup, but generally they seem to sweep more without fatties. The long irons are AWESOME, and the mids and shorts don't balloon as one might expect. Just a nice high trajectory that will sit right down on the fastest of greens.
Clubs are noticeably longer, too, despite the high trajectory. Longer than my Top Flite XLs or even my beloved Tommy Armour 855s. Long and straight. I can still, however, bend the 5, 4, and 3 irons left or right. Getting a draw out of them is pretty easy, and a fade is possible but you have to work a little for it to not let it get away from you.
I compared these to the other wide-sole irons that are out now: Cleveland Launcher, Cobra 3400, Big Bertha 2006, etc. and the TaylorMades pretty much smoked all of them. The cartridges in the heads absorb the sting of bad mis-hits, as well, much like a graphite shaft. That the rac HTs can be found cheaply now that the new OS2 is out was just icing on the cake.
Summary: Wonderful feel, long, straight, but still workable, amazingly enough ... they're perfect for mid and low handicappers. |
