TaylorMade Review: RAC HT Irons Irons
Manufacturer: TaylorMade Golf
Details:
Purchase: I hit these clubs at a couple of local pro shops and liked them better than my Callaway Big Bertha Irons. They RAC technology is impressive, they clubs are lighter than my Callaway irons. Ultimately I bought them on an impluse looking DicksSportingGoods.com for about $100 less than the local shops sold them for (paid $400 w/ steel shafts).

Pros: These irons feel great! They get the ball up into the air quickly, but do not seem to balloon the ball up too high (even though they are designed to produce a higher trajectory). There is also a very subtile draw bias in the design,.... again this is a value added (nothing wrong with being slightly left). The finish looks great too. Taylor is really good at the asthetics,... the clubs have a slick modern look to them with a satin finish. I don't pay a traditional set (3-P), my set is 4-A Wedge. The extra wedge helps me round out my short game better, and I carry a hybrid fairway iron to cover the traditional 7 wood and 3 iron gap. Again, it works for me and it was something I became used to from the callaway set witch is standard 4-A wedge. For the RAC set I had to buy the A wedge after-market from Edwin Watts.
Cons: The grips! Taylor stock grips are like holding saw blades! Change the grips, don't even swing the standard grips. I regripped them with the lamkin Dual Density Crossline (the new green grips). But grips are all about what feels good. So try a bunch of different kinds, Winn, Golf Pride, Lamkin, etc.
RAC HT Irons Quality: The construction is very good, but that is typical (I think) of all pro-grade products. The quality control at Taylor is about the best in the business from what I can tell. By that I mean you cannot tell the difference between the A-Wedge I bought after-market from the consistent look of the rest of the set.

Summary: A+! Taylor hit a homerun with these. I'll play them for about three-years and then I'll look to newer techology. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Taylor line of RAC irons.
TaylorMade RAC HT Irons Rating: 5
Author: Smithtown Golfer 1
Game: I've been playing seriously for six-years. ALthough I goofed around a bit in High School and early on in college (too many years ago to count,.... unfortunately). I'm 36, so you do the math. I don't do anything golfwise great, but I do a lot of things very good. Iron play is typcally my most consistent strength. My home course is Smithtown Landing on Long Island, NY.
