Titleist Review: 735.CM Irons

Manufacturer: Titleist Golf

Details: My 735.CM's have the DynamicGold S300 shaft. I had the length/lie adjusted to fit me.

Purchase: I purchased the 735.CM Stainless irons (3-PW) brand new from GolfUSA for $550. A bargain compared to the $749 that TGW, GolfSmith, and Edwin Watts is selling them for.

Pros: I love the progressiveness of the irons. The near blade style of the 8-PW is very nice. The long irons are pretty easy to hit. My previous irons were a set of Titleist DCI 990's. I didn't even carry the 3 iron because I couldn't hit it. The ball flight is somewhat high also, but I like that. It gives me confidence that I can hit the green from 210 and the ball will stick. The middle irons, like the 5-7 are also incredibly easy to hit. They are much more consistent than other irons I have tried. The short irons are slightly longer than my old set of DCI 990's, but I suspect this is due to the fact that they have a couple degrees less loft. My old 990 PW is 49*, and the new 735.CM PW is 47*. It's not a huge difference, but can add a few more yards. I also like the thin top line in the short irons, and the somewhat larger top line in the long irons helps give me confidence.

Cons: I haven't found anything I don't like about these irons. If someone told me I could have any other set in the world for free, I wouldn't change. I tested several sets before purchasing these, including Ping, Mizuno, Nike, Cleveland, etc and none of them compared.

735.CM Quality: Top notch. They are forged, so they will ding up slightly more than a cast iron. If this is something you are concerned about, buy a set of head covers for your irons to keep them from getting banged around in the bag. Yes, you'll probably be made fun of. :)

Summary: Overall, a great set of irons. They have the best feel of any other set I have tried. The normal $750 price may be a little steep for some people (it was for me!) but they can be found cheaper if you search around.

Titleist 735.CM Rating: 5

Author: Bill J

Game: I have been playing for about 12 years. My average round is anywhere frmo 76-84. My biggest weakness is putting, which isn't really relevant to this review. I feel I am a decent iron player with a fairly straight ball flight.

Average Round: 80's
